Question Trip Insurance

I always purchase trip insurance when I go on a cruise. This time I didn't purchase my airfare with the cruise line. My question is: If something happens and my flight is cancelled or delayed for some reason and I miss the departure of the cruise ship...am I covered?

the only way you would be covered would be if you purchased trip cancellation/trip interruption insurance, definitely worth looking into. www.insuremytrip.com is a great resource for information

Yes, most independent policies cover it, I'm not sure if the cruise line insurance excludes it if not purchased through them. They probably do cover it, but best to make sure.

BTW- I don't recommend purchasing your travel insurance from the cruise lines, but an independent carrier.

Did you buy the cruise line insurance?

What cruise line are you sailing?

If you did buy the cruise line insurance you need to get a copy of the terms and conditions and find out. No one can give you an accurate answer without knowing the cruise line and type of policy you purchased.

I don't recommend cruise line insurance, though it's better than no insurance, because it covers the cruise line as much, or more, than it covers you. I do recommend third party insurance that covers all of your vacation.

You can purchase seperate flight or vacation interruption insurance. The link that Lisa gave is a good one.

Take care,
Mike

we purchased insurance through the cruise line, Celebrity, last time we cruised and it was a very smart thing to do.
We missed our connecting flight in Atlanta, due to weather, and then missed the cruise!
We were reimbursed for the three days we missed on the cruise, which was a hunk of money. The nice thing was, we were stuck in Miami and had a wonderful time there before flying to meet our cruise.
I always buy insurance and have used it twice. It's worth it.

I have bought third party insurance and I have bought insurance thru the cruiseline. I have only had to use it once when my son-in-law died the day of our cruise. We got back 100%.
