Default Is it possible to cruise WITHOUT spending extra?

With the thread on nickel and diming going I got to wondering if it's possible for some to cruise without spending money onboard, other than gratuities?

What's the lowest bill you've been left to pay at the end of a cruise, if you exclude the tips?

And if the big spenders want to brag... what's the highest you've ever had?

Absolutely .... on Carnival DREAM .... this was our bill:

Soda Card
Gratuities
Shot glass from the gift store

We did pay for a cab ride in port at Cozumel ... does that count? Other than ... our spendign was limited to souvenirs in port.

Our largest bill ever might have been our honeymoon on Voyageur when we took the Dunn's River Falls excursion and a snorkelling excurion in Cozumel. Other than that, .. it might be Grandeur last fall, when I splurged for a massage.

I remember once listening to 2 guys in the pool bragging about their sail
and sign amount..One guy's was close to $1200.00 mostly on liquor. He could have cruised again with that amount

We had a shipboard credit of $300.00 once, and that was fun...I think the most we ever spent was on a cruise when hubby went bananas buying some artwork..so out of the norm for him too..but hey...

2 guys, one bought booze, and one bought art...lol..differentr strokes, both happy cruisers..

But, absolutley you can cruise, & not spend anymore moola

My bill for last cruise was ZERO (except for $400 cash advance so I could get miles).

Actually, that is not a fair comparison as we did have $1100 shipboard credit to use up:

$750 Excursion to Tikal on chartered aircraft
$177 Spa for wife
$25 Jacket at 75% off for me
$145 Miscellaneous boutique purchases for my wife
$3 Three candy bars to use up last of shipboard credit.

All other shore excursions were included as were tips, alcohol, sodas, lots of bottled water, and specialty restaurants. There is no photographer on board so no need to worry about being charged for photos.

I think it's perfectly possible to spend nothing on the ship, especially if you have OBC & don't drink. We spent quite a bit last one though, we took NO money as you can get $US on your account with P&O..so we did, drank what we wanted, bottle of wine virtually every night, ships trips at most ports. About the only thing we didn't spend much on was speciality restaurants as we couldn't get in at a decent time. We had 450 OBC to start with & that was gone before we boarded!! Unless you REALLY don't want anything why not?

I remember a few years back getting our neighbours bill instead of ours and it was for $4.95. I think it was for an 11 day cruise. This was before tips were automatically added. Sadly mine was for around $1,500, wish we could have traded

Usually 1 drink first day, seems like it's a signal something fun will happen!!
Last cruise bought 2 pictures that happened to turn out great.
The ships don't make much off me.

Actually my most recent cruise was a low record for us. It was not intentional, but we only bought one premium ice creme cone. That was it. So not including tips it was about $3.50.

I originally had a $100 OBC but used the diamond discount so it was taken off. Good cruise to NOT have an OBC.

I usually always get an internet package and sail away drinks, then sodas, some gifts or booze, but just didn't this time. And this was after they took my Captain Morgan.

Default We enjoy but not over indulge

Reality is we stay focused to some degree though it can add up fast.
Where the hoot you get a $1,100 credit onboard is not in my world or luck.
Approx>
Last cruise in November , 14 days
  1. $800 for Excursions
  2. About 5 bottles of wine ($130
  3. Rum each night ($100+
  4. Room service for preorder of rum and cokes ($60, get a few cans free
  5. New Camera $300 ( a splurge to replace the 10 year old one but we got 100 free prints
  6. Photos of us (6 x 20 ) $120
  7. SPA ($140 )
  8. Internet (2 packages $150 but also got 50 minutes free on specials, left the ship with 20 minutes not used
  9. Treat friends to drinks $100
  10. Wine Tasting $40 but got four small desert glasses
All in all the bill came to around $2,000 and we were ensuring we were not drinking like mad and we never do the casino , guess that helps
I'll not talk about what we bought on land for the grandchildren..
