Default Non cruisers reasons not to cruise.

Even though cruising has gained in popularity, and, millions and millions of people every year decide to take the plunge and book one, we all know lots of people who just don't want to give it a try.

If the word cruise, is mentioned in a crowd, I seem to hear it,and love to talk cruising,as I can bet all of you do too. Certainly this vacation is not for everyone, but when I am in a conversation, with a noncruiser, it seems one point comes up, as to why they would not cruise.

"I don't want to be told when and where to eat" seems to be right up there as a reason, that I have personally heard. Not that long ago, I said to someone, that just is not true anymore, and, an eyebrow went up.

With all the info on line, and commercials on tv...this seems to be just stuck in some people's head, when they hear "cruising"

When you get into a conversation with a non cruiser, how does your conversation go?

On the Today show, on a travel segment, KLG said people.....you need to try a cruise!

"Not enough time in port to experience the place".

I don't disagree with that one actually which is why we do an equal amount of land trips.

I have some very close friends that have no desire to go on a cruise and others who have been on a cruise and really didn't enjoy it.

The ones who have no desire to go on a cruise have the "Love Boat" impression of what cruising is like. They don't want to dress in tuxedos or lay around the pool all day. Even when I talk to them and tell them that isn't the way it is now it seems to fall on deaf ears.

People I know that have been on a cruise and didn't like it have a few different reasons:

1. The nickel and diming impression. The pushing of drinks, t-shirts, watches, alternative dining, pay activities and high priced shore excursions left them with a bad impression.

2. Regimentation: Having to eat at a specific time. Leave the boat at a certain time, short time on shore, return at a certain time gave them the feeling they were part of the herd.

3. Small cabins: One couple made the mistake of booking the "$599 cruise and air" special and went on a Bermuda cruise, in an inside cabin, on the Norwegian Sky. The inside cabins on many NCL ships are tiny. Real tiny. They felt they were in a box. It is an example of not knowing what you are getting into but it left such a bad impression they will not cruise again.

I do know others that have cruised and loved it. My sister took her first cruise. The CM Epic Cruise and loved it. She and her husband are already booked on Celebrity, next June, to Alaska. What she "didn't" like about Epic was the stateroom and she wasn't really thrilled with the number of dining options. She wanted fewer options.

It is really dependent on personal tastes and desires and what you want out of a vacation.

I personally don't believe anyone should forsake other vacation options and become an exclusive cruiser but for me it fulfills the majority of what I want out of travel.

Take care,
Mike

A good friend wants to go, but his wife thinks she'll be seasick the whole trip. She's prone to it, but so's my wife, and she loves cruising and has no problems with it on board.

One of my best friends would like to cruise, but her husband is totally against it! He's an AAA personality and is afraid he'd be bored and he doesn't want to leave his "electronic connections" at home. I'm afraid he's right! He's been "retired" for two years and now works more than ever. If you put this guy in a lounge chair next to a pool with a book, he'd go crazy !

I think we'll have to have a "girls" cruise!

A lot of our friends are former Navy, and don't like the idea of getting back on a boat. They hate the idea of being "stuck" on the ship on sea days...but hubby has turned a few around. He absolutely loves it, and lets them know that a Navy cruise is nothing like a this kind of cruise!

If you put me in a lounge chair by the pol with book I too go crazy. The great thing is that I always find PLENTY of other stuff to do.

I am a good husband and will lay by the pool with my wife. I think my record is one hour.

Take care,
Mike

I hear the word Titanic a lot. Stupid, I know, but there it is. There are a lot of scared people out there. You can point out that there will be no icebergs in the Caribbean but it does not matter. I know too many people with irrational fears of a ship sinking.

Moiraine posted about people not cruising because they feared the ship would sink . I know people who refuse to fly because they feel the plane may crash yet they have no problem driving a car .There are a greater number of fatalities involved motor vehicles than ships or planes .

Thanks. I would have "got it" if you'd said that

My girlfriend is scared stiff of Rogue Waves. It doesn't matter what I say.
