I'm very interested in the cruise to Alaska on Radiance of the Seas with my husband and six year old daughter. First of all, am I choosing the right ship? From my research, it sounds terrific. Secondly, what pointers would someone who's done the Alaska cruise with children give me?
Go on whale satching excursions and anything else that features wildlife. Kids love animals. I cruised with my then 13 yeare old daughter to Alaska back in the old days when there were no children's activities onboard and she was the only kid. She loved it. She was totally spoiled by the other passengers and Alaska is just so beautiful and fascinating she really enjoyed it. On another cruise when she was a little older there was a 10 year old boy with his grandmother. He had the same experiences. Have a wonderful cruise.
We just returned from ALASKA on the Norwegian SKY with our 7 year old. It was wonderful! Very relaxing-you do not need to dress up for dinner which makes it easier on everyone. The childrens program is wonderful-the largest of any ship we had previously been on. Out of 2200 passengers-300 were children-all well behaved. We saw the glaciers and the whales from the ship-I would recommend a balcony stateroom for this trip. We did a "Salmon Bake" in Juneau which was a nice buffet and cookout with chicken if you don't like salmon and the kids roasted marshmallos afterwards. They had a waterfall there with salmon jumping up the falls and you could pan for gold. We also did a tour in Skagway which went to Liarsville and lots of scenic phot opportunities which was equally as good. I wouldn't plan any tours for kids longer than 3 hours. We also went in a day early-booked our own airfare-and spent the day in Seattle sightseeing-dont miss the Space needle-We got a great rate at the Seattle Sheraton Towers for 99.00 on a Satueday night-includes swimming pool on the 35th floor-nice view! The next day we were able to board the ship at 11:30 and we were totally relaxed! Have fun!!
