My kids are old enough to be in the "programs" but is there any way to stay in touch with them in case they have a question or a problem? I have thought about borrowing hand radios/walkie talkies, but didn't know if they would work on board or even be allowed......???? Help!
Christine, I was on Sea Princess last year and it seems like you could rent walkie-talkie type items on the ship. We did not use the service, but I saw a lot of people, especially younger children, using the items. Not a lot of help, but maybe someone else has had first-hand experience.
We use them all the time with our three children. It's a good way to find out where everyone is, and if all the kids are doing okay. We can gather up the kids and tell them where to meet us for lunch, etc. Lots of families are using them on ships now. On the larger ships, Voyager, Explorer, etc. they are really handy to have. In fact, walkie talkies are becoming so popular on ships, we sometimes have to change channels because of interference.
I would recommend buying your own, they are useful in many places besides cruise ships.
We saw a mumber of people use them on the Grand Princess so when we were on the Independence this June with our daughter and grandkids we had 4 hand radios amoung the 5 of us. They are very useful and well worth the price. My wife and I use them at the mall, etc. Only time we couldn't use them was when we were way down in our cabin and some one was up on deck trying to reach us.
