Default Cancelling Cruises?

When I got home form work today, my wife said that she had been told by a friend that if a war starts, our cruise in 17 days will be cancelled. Is that true?

Well, you don't mention where you're cruising. There's no question a war would, and already has affected some itineraries.

A friend in Florida said that local TV was saying that if the US did go to war, they would close the ports. I didn't see the piece myself, so don't know if this was conjecture, media hoopla, or a gov't representative.

Personally I can't imagine them taking these steps as a preventative measure. Such a move would do terrible damage to the economy, and not just cruise ship economy.

Watching the President's speech he did say he would be increased airport and port security. Said nothing about closing them down.

I rather doubt it but it may depend on the cruise. If it's in the Caribbean then probably not. But if it's in the Mediterranean then maybe yes.

Thomas

I live here in Florida and we see interviews all the time on the news about the ports here and not one of them has said this. The media keeps asking them if they will and they keep telling them that no, it will be business as usual with more security is all. Come on people, we have NEVER closed ports do to war, if anything they are busier. I hate it when these rumors try and gain substance. Again, I see no way that they would even consider closing any ports except for a very temporary emergency that wouldn't last a day, maybe a couple hours maybe if something was found.

I work in the wholesaling business selling cruises and we haven`t heard anything of that sort that they would shut down the ports. Everything is going according to usual. If they do decide to shut/ cancel something down it would be the mediterranean cruises.
But nothing in north america has been cancelled.

I know air portions have been delayed but not cruises.

Jim & Kat, Thank you for your input. I have to make the final payment next week for my June cruise. I'm paying for 5 of us (2 cabins), and never considered it a gamble, UNTIL I read this post. Nothing is guaranteed, I know, but if there was even a strong *rumor* that the ports would close, I'd be holding on to my checkbook, and cancelling the cruise.
Again, thank you!

Don't cancel Donna. Go and enjoy, there is no closing of ports even being considered except by those that think the sky is falling.
