Default Distress Cabins???

I've been searching on the net for several days now for a cruise to the Bahamas in April. After finding a good price for a outside cabin I called the site for some added information .While speaking to a "live "person they stated that the Cabins offered on the site were "DistressCabins" which meant they were do to be refurbished and were'nt as nice as the ones he could offer for a little more price. He Also stated catagories did'nt mean anything..I was wondering if anyone has come across this senerio before and know if the cabins they offer on the net sites are "Distressed" and that by going through a regular travel agency you get better accomodations. This has got my curiosity up now.Any feedback would be appreciated.....Rick

Hi Rick,
Sorry, I have never heard of that before. What ship are you interested in?

Hi Donna ...The Ship Was the Soveriegn of the Seas....We sailed this ship 2yrs ago and even though it is a older ship it was nice....And I know it's probaly due for a good refurb...But like I said I was just curious if anyone had heard that line before... it's new one to me.....Guess I'll just see what this thread brings and decide if were gonna book for the 26th of April or not.....Thanks for the reply.... Heck.. All I need is a place to sleep, shower, and change. If the price is right, I would take it.

I'd be inclined to call RCL and ask *them* if they have such cabins. Sounds strange to me.

I've never heard of this either. I was on the Sovereign a little over a year ago and she was in need of a make-over. I know our cabin had considerable rust in the shower, a leaky shower head, peeling wallpaper and some other normal wear-and-tear but it was comfortable nonetheless.

Regards,
Thomas

Rick, no such animal. The TA is doing some fancy dancing IMHO. If the cabin is in poor shape or need work they do not use it but repair it first.

Sounds like someone is handing you a line, hoping you will fall for it and book a more expensive cabin, therefore giving themselves a higher commission.

Hi rick

If this your first cruise? To tell you the truth, they are not that bad. You really do not spend that much time in your room anyway. I just went to the bahamas and if I spent 6 hours in my room that was alot. Look at the cost, who is traveling with you. If you can live with a but of maybe writing on the wall or maybe a bit less paint for a few days it wont matter.

Thanks All for your feedback so far.....and I agree that the "Live Person" was just trying to get a little more out of us..I don't think I've read anywhere online that the people who have booked online have gotton worse cabins from those who booked through a TA for the same catagories..I also noticed that on most online sites you go to they all have the Same exact cabins available to sell...Guess I could call them up to and let them know there selling distress cabins also......Thanks again for the advice ...Happy Cruizin........Rick

Rick,

If you want to do a Bahamas cruise from P.C. but think that the Sovereign is in need of refurbishing, you might want to consider the Fantasy. Although she is also an older ship, the Fantasy was refurbished in Freeport just a few months ago. Her 4-day cruise stops at Nassau and Freeport (no private island).
