Default camcorder question

I am planning on buying a camcorder for my cruise. What type should I buy? How many of you take camcorders on your cruise with you? And if you do what should I look for in a camcorder? Money is not really an option I am willing to spend about $1000 for a good one even more if I need to. Do you usually take them with you on shore excursions or is this a bad idea. I'll be going to the southern carribean do you think it's a good idea to take a camcorder off the boat?

I now have a Sony DCR-SR82. It is a digital camcorder that records That I can get about 30 - 40 hours of high resolution and high quality recording time out of. It also accepts Sony Memory Sticks for still pictures. We use it a lot for family movies but to be REAL honest I don't use it on a cruise and I leave it at home and bring my digital camera. If I want to take a short .mpg, I can use the digital.

I have found that even though it's nice to capture those memories on video it loses something when you end up having a "one eyed vacation".

Take care,
Mike

Thanks Mike I'll keep that in mind. I've never been on a cruise before, I'll be going on my first one 18 months from now on my honeymoon. I'll probably get a camcorder and bring it along for the first time so our familys can see all the fun we had. Plus we are going to 7 Southern Carribean islands and I'd like to get some videos on the excusions if we are allowed.

Does anyone know if they let you video excusions?

Thanks,
Andrew

To avoid a "one eyed vacation" or "The Borg" look, plan your shots before taking them and not to often.
I can't see why they wouldn't allow CC's on excursions, its free advertising for them.
Keep it well attached to your body.
