Default Obstructed or partially obstructed balcony cabins

We have had balcony cabins in the past with no obstruction .

Why would someone want an obstructed view ?

sometimes the obstruction is very minimal (depending on cruiseline/ship) and the rate is very appealing...... it may be a portion of the lifebat is visible but does not affect the view outwards...... I have had staterooms with partial obstruction and been well pleased with the views and the savings were substantial !

Easy answer. They cannot or will not afford a proper cabin and are willing to settle for less.
There is a growing segment of the population that is willing to eat cat food every day if the price is right.

I think I would prefer this obstructed view cabin over an inside anyday. While you may not get a full outside view, at least something over no window at all. These cabins are usually a good deal, not much more than an inside...

Just curious what is considered a proper cabin?

I'll never eat cat food even if it's free!

I'm not sure they have balcony rooms with obstructed views. I did have an obstructed outside room with no balcony on Crown Princess. It was absolutely fine. You could look out and see the ocean. However, if you looked down, you would see the life boats and the staircase for the staff. I tend to be claustrophobic and I had no problems at all.

I often book an outside guarantee and have almost always gotten the superior outside rooms with no obstruction at a slightly lower cost. You could get an obstructed room but that has never happened to me yet, knock on wood!
