Default Blackbeard's Tower - Bahamas

Hi everyone,
My fiance would like to see Blackbeard's Tower next time we stop in Nassau... I know it's outside of the city on New Providence Island.
I realize it's not much to see... but he seems to have his heart set on it.
What would be the best way to get there? Should we take a taxi? Any estimates on how much that would cost?

Cheers,
Michelle B.

Michelle,
Blackbeards Tower is in St Thomas and basically at the top of the "99 Steps" and there is a hotel right there. You may be thinking of the "Queens Staircase" in Nassau which leads up to a fort, (can't remember the name off-hand), and a water tower that overlook the port. It is a really neat area and one well worth visiting.

Thanks Jim - but I know there's also a Blackbeard's Tower on New Providence Island.

I could only find a little information about it from a few random websites:

* There is no charge to climb Blackbeard's Tower, on East Bay St., overlooking the harbour and city.

* Today, the signs of pirate lore can be visited at Blackbeardís Tower in Nassau.

* In the story called "Bahamas' forts tower above island's booty," which appeared in the Washington Times written by Jack Biesterfeld, it was said that Blackbeard had his crew build a tower on the highest piece of land overlooking the ocean so that he could terrorize passing ships. This Tower, now strangely called Blackbeard's Tower was built in 1706. "According to legend, the tower was built by the notorious Blackbeard, alias Edward Teach, who headquartered in Nassau around 1706 so he could spot passing prizes or interloping competitors."

I'm sure I'll end up going to all these places eventually. Just wondered if anyone had been to this one before.

Cheers,
Michelle B.
