Default Need help! Native Ways or Stingray City Charters?

Hi gang,

I need some serious help from you Grand Cayman tour experts!

Hubby and I will be leaving for our cruise on Nov 29th and I still haven't booked our Stingray City excursion!
We have cancled our tour through the cruiseline and are now trying to decide if we should use Native Ways or Stingray City Charters. They both look to be the same price, so anybody have any suggestions? Or experinces that can help us decided?
We decided against using Soto only because hubby is not upto trying the catameran thing. <BG>
Also, are ship is suppose to arrive at 9am at Grand Cayman and depart at 5pm. So to not be rushed or miss the boat for our ship, should we book the 9:00am or 11:00am excursions that are 2 and half hours long?

Please help!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Mmketeer....Mariner/RCCL/Nov.30th

I am going in March to GC....and was wondering the same thing...we want to do the stingray tour also. I emailed Nativeways and they were very nice and replied very quickly. You may want to email them directly to find out their tour times for that date. Ours in March are 9:30am and 12:15pm....I think we're going to use Nativeway for our tour cause I've heard so many great things about them on here and other boards.

There are 2 stingray sites, Stingray City and Stingray Sandbar, both with lots of rays. The advantage to the sandbar tour is that you are in about 4 feet of water, easy to get around and take underwater pics, and feed them. At Stingray City, you are in about 12 feet of water and without your feet planted it's harder to do that stuff. The Sandbar crew will help you hold a ray for a minute for a shot, and they'll demo how to kiss one. (They are not good kissers, they only want yer food ... the rays, I mean :-) ... (my wife says the crew are much better kissers ... don't know where she heard that.) The crew puts out a floating food pail in the water, and you get a chunk, hold it on your open palm, like feeding a horse, and they swim over it and suck it up (no teeth). They swim around your feet, touching you like a house cat. You will love this tour. The teenage girls spend lots of energy screaming :-)

Soto's cataman is really hard to call it a catamaran. It is very similar to the tender boats you used in GC. It may be a dual "pontoon" like a catamaran, but the entire area is floored. I went with Soto in Oct and give them a strong recommendation.

was there last month - we used Nativeways and I STRONGLY RECOMMEND them. They were excellent - the trip was the highlight of the cruise.

We're on the Voyager of the Seas arriving in Cayman 12/11. We were leaning towards
booking the ship's tour because meeting SOTO @8am at the Hard Rock is too early 4us. The ship has 10:45 & 12:45 tours but they only last 2 hours so I think they only stop at the sand bar & not the other 2 snorkeling stops. Cost $45 & I hear they much more crowded than the other tours. Nativeway has 9:30 & 12:30..but I'm afraid 12:30 might be too late since ship sails 4pm but it's supposed to be 2 1/2 hrs & should give us enough time....but I'm still leary..if we miss the boat YIKES!!!!

Hi Mmketeer

When we were in Grand Cayman mid October, we used Captain Marvin's tour.
They took us to two barrier reefs to snorkerl, they provided the equipment and
then took us to Stingray City. There was only about 38 people on our boat and
each one of us was able to hold a stingray for pictures. I think it was about
$40.00 per person. It was great. I would highly recommend them. The also
provided snorkel gear and food for the stingrays. Also punch and fresh water
on board. In addition, they gave you a 10% discount to shop in their store and
each person received a small packaged rum cake.

We took the early tour which was about 9:00 am and I think that amounts to 10:00 am
ship time. We did get back in time to grab a quick lunch before boarding the ship.
However, you won't have a lot of time to shop if that's what you want to do.

Have fun, you'll enjoy it.

Captain Marvins in FANTASTIC! Talk to Ruth,,,she will take great care of you. We were there in 2002..march and had an incredible fun time. Capatain Marvin who is around 86 or so took us out , and the crew was super. They offer a few different tours so select which fits your time available. They also have a videographer who takes some pretty good video of your trip at an additional cost of course. We still watch it on occassions and get a real kick out of it. Have a great time!

I didn't see them videotaping when we were there, but maybe no one on our tour asked for it. I'd email them, - sharon will respond to you very quickly.

Just got back & called Nativeways for Stingray City. Great deal at $25 per person (better than the $45+ they are selling from the ship. Sharon was more than accomodating our pickup & drop off times/places. We lucked out - only 5 of us on board with them for the afternoon. Sure beats being corralled onto those mega catamarans. No video, but check with Sharon.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for everyone's imput. I have decided to go with Nativeways. Their excursion doesn't leave till 9:30am and we are suppose to dock at 8am. So, that should give me plenty of time to get in there now instead even if I am not on the first tender off the ship. Nativeways was extremly flexiable with me, so it sounds like it'll be a great tour. E-mail me when I get back if you want to know how it went.

MMketeer....Mariner/Nov.30th.

5 more days to go! wahoo!

OK! For Celebrity Horizon people arriving Caymans on 12/21, I am putting together a trip with NativeWays. I have negotiated for ceviche and beer. They said they would dive for conch and give us fresh conch cevice, plus they would put beer onboard but we had to pay for it. (All the beer joints are closed on 12/21 because it is Sunday.) To join our trip, and to give us more clout for customizing the dive, email me at empiehl@juno.com

The deal with NativeWays is $25 pp. They usually leave at 10:15
and take you back to the dock by 1:00 (unless we want to linger).

You do not have to put up money or credit card info in advance!!!

We booked with nativewy for afternoon tour & they assured us that we will be back at dock 3pm, plenty of time for our 4pm departure..last tender 3:30. They claim that Cayman time is the same as ship's time after October when daylight savings time is no longer in effect. I sure hope they're right since we'd rather lounge around in the morning & not have to get up so early to be at the dock by 9.especially with tendering.

I've heard great things about Captain Marvin, Captain Bryan, Soto & the ship's tour on RCCL but we chose nativeway mainly due to the time..12:15. We sail on the Voyager of the Seas 12/7,,,NEXT WEEK!!

am going to GC in January, very excited about the stingray tours. the photos at nativeways aren't very good but i'm hoping that those who've been there can tell me the photos are better in reality. it sounds like the praise is evenly divided between cpt marvin and native ways - do both go to stingray city? does either have better photo quality? does cpt marvin have website?
