Default What to do in SanJuan (from 4PM on)?

Hi all. We are considering sailing on the Star Princess. The only thing is that it stops in San Juan from 4PM to 11PM. We usually like to go to the beach and shop in each port. I'm assuming 4pm is too late for beach, so is there any shopping at that time?

San Juan at night centers around the hotels, restaurants, bars and casinos.

You can still go on a tour or go on your own to the fort area & shops...we had a great tour but were also disappointed not enough time to see the rainforest.

Having been to San Juan a few times, I say stay on the ship.

We got a tour after we had left the ship and got to see the fort, new and old San Juan and even had a short stop at a beach for pictures. Our driver gave us a choice of being dropped of at the pier or Old San Juan for shopping. We spent a couple hours in Old san juan and walked back to the ship. I think our tour was $ 10or $15 and well worth it.

Amy
Did you book your tour through the ship? If not, did yo just get a taxi/tour when you got off the ship? We're on the Star 11/14 and tentatively booked the Old and New San Juan By Night excursion but it's $25pp.

mb: Good move! It will probably be dark about an hour after you arrive in San Juan.
Some of these cruise schedules are such as waste!

I know Carnival has heard all the complaints about what time they arrive in San Juan.. .. The question is why have they not done anything about it... We went there on our second cruise. and just walked around a little. We couldn't even find a bathroom open in a McDonalds that was near by, because the water had been turned off for some reason. I really think Carnival should try to get there during the day.. Do they get a kick back from Juan Carolas Rumba show or something

We were at San Juan while sailing on the Victory and it was really a waste of time!

I recently spent 2 years in San Juan on a job assignment. It is a wonderful, unique, beautiful island and Old San Juan has so much to offer! I am somewhat disappointed that my next cruise (1/29 - Jewel) is not there LATER. The local night life is fabulous - just walk around - see the fort and old wall - get caught up in the local excitement - which usually doesn't get started until later. Fabulous people, shops, clubs, restaurants, music, food, etc.!! I would certainly spend more time in Old San Juan on my own rather than on a canned tourist excursion!!

We love Restaurante Baru in Old San Juan for the finest Tapas we have experienced. Service, decor, and food are fantastic.

Based on a recommendation, we contacted Jerry (coquiPIE@aol.com) concerning a private tour in San Juan while we're there the evening of Nov 16th. He's is very accomodating and we are planning to have him take us on a jeep tour. Will provide feedback when we return.
