Default Has anyone here rafted the Martha Brae on the bamboo rafts &

I just haven't seen many postings about this excursion.

We were thinking about this one and we were wondering if it is as peaceful and relaxing as it looks?

Also is it smooth enough that you could bring a video camera with you?

There was a couple at our table that did this excursion. They really liked it. They said that the scenery was wonderful. They didn't say much about how rough the water was or wasn't, but I would imagine since it is wooden rafts it would not be rough.

We did that tour last year off RCCL's Mariner of the Sea. Yes, it is smooth enough for a video cam. It is pretty quite and peaceful.I forgot how long the raft trip is but seems like 45 min or an hour but can't be sure. There will be several other rafts strung out along the trip. Some will be in sight at times and at times you will be alone, as the river is winding. The trip from the ship to the launching area on the river is kind of long and when we went the road was really rough but you get to see some of the countryside.
The raft is made of bamboo poles lashed together with a small platform to sit on at the back. The guide poles along, telling you about Jamica, local history, etc. He will somewhere along the way try to sell you carvings, etc.
I'm glad we did the tour as we had always wanted to but I wouldn't do it again. Our guide was named Ray and had the largest head of dread locks I have ever seen. He was a great guy and guide.I'm sure you would enjoy the tour if you like being outside and want to see some of the countryside. We got back to Ocho Rios in plenty of time to shop around the pier area and go to Jimmy Buffets place.

It is a great tour. Ron pretty much described it. Its very relaxing, you get to see the beautiful lush scenery of Jamaica and some of how the locals live. We saw women washing clothes on the rocks and kids bathing in the river.

Thanks for the information !! I hadn't heard anyone talking about it and was becoming afraid it might be a "don't do" tour. But now it sounds like just the thing.
