Default Paradise Isl. Atlantis Resort

Has anybody been to the Atlantis Resort recently?
I read that the Pool Water Temperature is cold this time of year.
I also read that the pools have heaters but are not being used to save expenses.
Does anyone know if this is true?
Thank you.

We just came back last night from a weekend trip. We stayed in the beach tower. The pools were ice cold and the only ones really swimming were the little kids. It was cold and windy on Friday, but improved each day. My husband and others were on the Mayan Temple slides and said that water wasnt too bad. The pools are not heated at all-staff member told us after we asked. Are you staying there or visiting from a ship? If youre not staying there, they have staff posted everywhere (mainly at entrances from the buildings, beach) checking for wristbands (colors changed daily) or room cards. If you didnt have one, they sent you back inside. I saw several groups touring, obviously from ships since many were carry logo bags, etc. Have you been there before? The prices are still outrageous, and the food is so-so (many hot items on the buffets were cold), and the lobster at Waters Edge wasnt that good. We ate often at Marketplace since they had a better selection. I hope youre getting a meal plan-dinners ran anywhere from $80-$100+ for two of us, no alcohol. Breakfasts ran $50+. It was a company reward so everything was paid for, and we had the modified dining plan. We had been about 3.5 yrs ago for our 2nd anniversary and the staff is so much friendlier now. Other than that, not much has changed. Theyre building a new suites only tower (675 rooms or so) that will be bigger than the royal towers, an amusement park, adding a dolphin swim program (I never did understand why they didnt have one), finishing up the harbourside units and in the fall will open a bahamian style market area next to the marina. And according to our shuttle service driver, at Cable Beach someone bought many of the large resorts there and will tear some down to build something similar to Atlantis, but cheaper (maybe Atlantis will lower prices???), and that soon the empty beaches will be built up. We never went into town, but those that did took the water taxi and said some guy wearing a uniform gave a speal about things, then asked for tips saying he wasnt a part of the taxi company. We figured he makes about $80 an hour, tax free doing this! Be prepared to be at the airport at least 3 hours before you flight, especially if its a weekend. It took an hour to get there, then we spent 2 hours standing in lines-one to check in, another to clear security (one machine on each side of the building), another line to clear customs, then you can drop your check in luggage off (pack lightly) and then at the top of the escalator, another security checkpoint! If our plane hadnt been late, we wouldve basically been boarding right after we got up there! When they did call to board us, they wouldnt open the door to the ramp, so we waited again. Then they started pulling people out to hand scan them. To make life easier, wear sneakers, no belts or large metal objects, take off any sweaters/jackets ahead of time. Some were even taking off watches and then getting annoyed to have to do it all over again! Then once on the plane, we sat at the gate for an hour! No wonder theyre building another terminal! Feel free to email me if you have any other questions!

Thank you for that assessment and for your time and effort. We will have about 5 hours to tour the place from the cruise ship. I have read from others all that you said, so I know it must be accurate. I guess just taking a tour and seeing the casino's, restaurants (not eating there) and a walk around the place will have to suffice.
I saw the website that shows the waterslides and that was of interest to me, but the cold water takes the fun away.
I also heard that although the food was generally good, it wasn't so great to support those prices.
Thanks again, I hope you had fun on your trip anyway.
