Default First time to Bahamas-What are some great Excursions for the

My first cruise will be Aug 4, 2005 on the Carnival Celebration.
It's 9 of us in total (2 kids & 7adults)
The kids are 7 & 8 years old.

We'll be in Free Port from 12pm -7pm and Nassau from 7am- 12am.

What will be some good excursions for us to do...keeping in mind we have 2 kids (one of which is mines-8yr old).

Also is it cheaper to book directly thru the companys offering excursions or thru Carnival.

Thanks a bunch

in Nassau - since your time is so limited, get to Atlantis and take a tour of the Aquarium. You and your kids will love it, it is fasinating. Go by land taxi.
In Freeport - hit the beach. Port Lucaya is very nice.

If the timing is right, try Tranquility Beach Excursion in Freeport. It is a relaxing beach day and they do have activities for the kids. See my photos in the photo gallery--Freeport Excursion author Cheryl C. dated around January 3rd.

Hi, We've been to Nassau 3 times. You can get off the ship and take a taxi to the Atlantis directly or you can catch a ferry to Atlantics, The cab is quicker, the ferry goes straight to Atlantis, but waits to fiil up then goes. After the ferry gets to Atlantis you have 2 walk about 2 blocks to get to the casino. We took a cab over and the ferry back. The last time we were in Nassau we decided to try another casino. So we took the local bus to Cable Beach ($1.00) and get off at the Wyndham Hotel and Casino and spent a couple of hours there. Then went out onto their beach and enjoyed the sun for an hour or two. Went back outfront and caught the local bus to town. Nice little scenic ride to get there-maybe 15 minutes or so.. We are doiung the same thing on 7/13/05 Zuiderdam. Any questions just ask. Take care, Knarf (Frank backwards)

Dear CP you can get to Atlantis on your own very easily, either by land or water taxi. The casino is gorgeous, and there is a booth in the casino where you buy your tickets to the Aquarium. It is fasinating!

dynomite,

We're scheduled for the same itinerary (Freeport and Nassau) in June. As far as Freeport goes . . . our plan is to just kinda check things out and reboard for rest, relaxation and DRINKS!!! Besides . . . this will be formal night too so sure don't want to RUSH myself (and DD) about getting ready . . . maybe we'll even get our hair done too!

Now Nassau is a different story. Since we'll be in port for about 17 hrs, I've booked a room at the Comfort Inn so we can use the Atlantis Hotel facilities. I'd say ALL the kids (and adults too) would really enjoy the pools/slides etc and you can always take a break and ride the lazy river (tubes) . . . do the dig (aquarium) or the casinos.

I thought we'd stay most of the day then head back to the dock and hit Senor Frogs/Hard Rock and the Harley Store for stuff to bring back for all the poor souls still back in Kentucky!!

KYCruiser--don't know if you have ever been to Freeport before but if you haven't, there is NOTHING to do at the port. There is a small straw market and that's about it. You need to take a cab or do an excursion. Your only other option is to stay on the ship.

Thanks so much for the information.

One more question: Do anyone knows where to go to get access to Jet Ski's and how much it would cost.

Cheryl C,

That's kinda what I've heard and No . . . I've never been to Freeport and this is my FIRST CRUISE!!!!!!

But back to the Freeport topic . . . I just thought we might get off the ship just to say we've been there (you know how that is) then get back on the ship to enjoy the day onboard. Hows the staw market there anyway??

Now my TA has a differing opinion (to each his own right?) . . . she says that Freeport is WAY BETTER than Nassau . . . she says Freeport's her FAVORITE place to go. Can't really imagine that but . . .

Thanks for the info . . . it just reaffirms my previous decision.

The straw market in Freeport is very small. Didn't shop there just looked. The straw market in Nassau is great. Bargained for two "designer" bags, a Coach and a Gucci. Freeport may be better than Nassau because Nassau's port is much more busy therefore, lots of people are trying to sell/scam you out of money. Freeport port has nothing around it except for a small local band playing great music.

port in Nassau

Nassau is very poor. But I sure like the people there. They r there to make a living too. They do hae some great wears to seel u. This next trip will be our 3rd time there. We are doing the Blue Lagon and shop the straw market. I love it. Happy cruising..

I have a crazy question - are the big buildings that you walk through (right before you get to Senor Frogs considered the straw market - we went last year and went to the blue lagoon and then on the way back to the boat we walked through those buidings with stacks and stacks of shirts and people begging you to buy things....I just wasn't sure if it was the "straw market" or not

When we were there in December, the straw market was located in a tent because of a fire. In the photo it is to the right of the pink building.
