Default snorkling in the rain? Cozumel

If it's raining, what is it like to snorkel? Can you still see well enough? Do you feel colder? etc.
Thanks,
TAmmy

we just did a snorkel trip in cozumel last week and though it wasn't raining ....it was windy, cool and cloudy. had considered bringing my wetsuit but didn't want to look like a dork. We forgot to bring our towel and the tour didn't have any !!!! I just knew we were gonna freeze! Got in the water, and much to my surprise, it wasn't too bad! Did not freeze. But the reef was very disappointing, i think it was the planacar reef. And the tour guide said this reef was better then the other that we were suppose to go see and didnt.
Maybe the hurricane damaged the reef?? I don't know but the reef was very disappointing! Another tip, your wasting your time if you go to playa mia at cozumel. We did the combo snorkel and beach at playmia....very disappointing!

Default rainy day snorkelling

Artistammy,

Depending on the volume of rain, the near surface (1-2') can be a bit blurry due to the freshwater mixing with the salt water. When the rain stops, the blurriness dissipates quite quickly, though.

The cold factor is entirely dependant on the air temp., sea temp., and rain temp. I usually spend at least half my snorkel time on the bottom looking for critters and have rarely been cold due to rain.

We had a great time last year when we were there. It was the only day it rained in the 7 days. We still had a great time in the water. As for playa mia in cozumel we had alot of fun there. Lots to do for the kids. Some shopping and we had a massage on the beach. We are going back in April. Have fun.

I find when its cloudy or rainy the ocean water is dark and "feels" cold, even if its not. Hard to see the sunlight shining on the fishies.

it depends upon the type of rainstorm. If its just the usual passing shower, its kind of neat to snorkel in the rain, you can see the rain falling from a totally different point of view.

We didn't have to swim in rain our day in Cozumel but the sea was rough that day because of a front coming in. I only got a little cool when we got out of the water onto the boat. The rough sea did keep getting water in my snorkle tube which was very annoying. I felt like I spent half my time emptying it. I was still glad I did it though. I did see some colored coral & a few fish snorkeling from the top. My husband saw more because he was diving down close to the coral reef (Paradise reef). I'm really looking forward to getting the photos developed.
