Default Belize Zoo

We enjoy zoos and are considering going to the Belize zoo. Has anyone been there? What did you think? How did you get there? Bus? Taxi? Can you tell me what the taxi cost would be from the port? Thanks!

Does the cruiseline, by chance offer the zoo in Belize as an excursion?? Its just one of those ports that I would be careful in, although I'm sure any taxi can take you there, but you'd have to make sure you'd be able to get a taxi back to the port. Its also a tender port, may-be check into booking through the cruiseline?

They offer it along with a city tour for around $50. The zoo only costs $9 so I figured we could save some money but finding our own transportation.

We had that excursion booked through Carnival and it was cancelled for "operational issues". Like Donna said, I would be very careful in Belize. We were warned several times at the tour talk about going out on our on in Belize. Outside of the pier area is not safe. We did not rebook anything after our excursion was cancelled and just tendered into port and had a drink at the Wet Lizard and shopped some.

Default Zoo

I have been to the Belize Zoo. We hired a taxi for the day since there were four of us and we went to several places. It wasn't too much $, but I don't recall the exact amout we paid. We hired him from the dock in Belize City. There was a separate admission to the Zoo. If you like Zoos you will like it. The monkeys and birds were the highlights as I recall. Take mosquito spray. It's a beautiful country. I remember that lunch was great as we ate in a local place the driver recommended.

I'd like to think that I am quite aware of my surroundings and that venturing out in Belize would not be that bad. Heck I worked in downtown Oakland and survived

Seriously though, I would like a few more opinions as to the safety in Belize. Has anyone done any tours that were not through the cruise line?

When you get to the pier in Belize, there will be venders selling excursions. Only problem, what would be last minute, if you are up to that.

Anything similar to Victor Bodden in Roatan or Moby Dick tours in Grand Cayman? I would rather book before we arrive so we don't miss out. Thanks.
