[B][/B I was checking out some ports of calls for the Carribbean places in ST Thomas,ST Maarton,Antigua and a few others which all had a full page about the island and diffrent stuff. Then I came across Willemstad Curacao which had about three sentences describing the island.I was just wondering if any body has been there is it safe? Is there nothing there?Just seemed odd that there was only a few sentences about the place.
Charming place, Dutch influences, interesting architecture, delft pottery, nice shops & pavement/sidewalk cafes, a sort of trolley train that takes a trip round, interesting harbour with a swing bridge that you walk across unless the open it then a ferry comes into action if you are lucky. Safe as anywhere as far as I know. Didn't visit any beaches there.

One does not associate a bridge such as this in a sleepy Caribbean port, but, look at this, the Queen Juliana Bridge!
I would love to go back, as my 1st visit yrs ago, I thought it not the best port. At that time the downtown area was mostly geared to locals, rather than tourists, and, not too appealing. The oldest synagogue in the islands is there, and the pastel painted homes as you port, are charming. The walk is long off the pier, and as you walk there are tastings of the famous Curacao liqueur, all along the way into town.

Love, love Curaco. It is one of the cleanest, and safest islands. We did the beach and the seaquarium when we were there, good snorkeling. Then we just wandered around the downtown area, lots of interesting local vendors
Curacao is a delightful island. Willemstad is a good size city with good infrastructure. Of course, you can find bad areas but if you stick to major tourist areas you will be fine.
Many years ago we went to a little hole in the wall joint recommended by a gourmet magazine for riijstaafel -- a 21 course meal of various sauces and tidbits to pour over rice!
On a more recent trip, what we really enjoyed in Curacao was the Sea Lion Encounter at the Seaquarium! Check out our trip report and pictures at The Halls Southern Caribbean Cruise. It was a lot of fun and not very expensive.
