We will be sailing the week after you. I have never been on this ship before so I would like to hear what anyone has to say also. So far both our experiences with Carnival have been great! As of yet, we dont have a cabin assignment. Will be interesting to see where we end up.

You got a couple hours...lol No, seriously...my main question was what to do in Ensenada. Did you take any excursions? Anything that we should try not to miss? I have heard so many negative things about Ensenada..it's dirty, it smells, there is nothing to do there...things like that. I cant imagine it's all bad. Anything about the ship that you particularly liked?

One more thing...Did you stay over night in Long Beach or just drive in that day? The last time we stayed at the Coast Long Beach Hotel and it was a very nice place. They kept the car for us for the seven days were on the ship but I found out after the fact that there were quite a few places in Long Beach that did the same thing...shuttle, car babysitting...for a lot less money than it cost us to stay at the Coast. Just wondering...

We stayed in Anaheim for a couple days before our trip (did Disneyland, etc.) but did not have a car. we used airport transfers. I bet you can find a bunch of places to stay that will help you out.
Ensenada was interesting. I had read a lot of bad things also, but went with an open mind. We left the ship early and walked into town. Not too bad a walk - but they do have a shuttle bus for $2 there, $1 back, so if you don't like to walk, take it. We took the map that they had on the gangway and stuck to that route and the one street where the shops were. Many of them were closed as early as we went - they seemed to all open at 10 am. But we had a wonderful, quiet walk, with no beggers, and not many shopkeepers bugging us to buy. There were many nice shops, and some not so nice, but fun stuff to see. We saw a lot of the same stuff, but also saw some unique stuff. There was also some disgusting stuff. But, it wasn't really in your face. It was fairly clean. On the way back to the ship, we were somewhat bothered by beggers and children trying to sell chicklets. My impression is that had we taken the shuttle, we would not have seen much of that because they CANNOT get into the pier area, as security was pretty tight and they checked for your sign and sail card.
There is a shopping area right off the ship if you don't want to go into town. They have some of the same things, liquor, and souvenirs.
One thing that's important to remember (I think) is that although they sell a lot of interesting stuff in Ensenada, you can't take some of it on the ship or off when you get to customs back in Long Beach - no shells, no knives, no food, no weapons, etc. One goofball bought a sword and tried to bring it on the ship.
We didn't do any Ensenada excursions, although I wish we had. We were pretty much done with the shopping within a few hours. One of our tablemates did the wine tasting tour and said it was great. And I don't think Ensenada is a place where you want to do a non-cruise ship sponsored excursion. I have heard horror stories.
Things we liked about the ship - the food, the service staff was all wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The casino was good too - we did pretty well there, EXCEPT for the day at sea when we could not win anything....
Let me know if you have any more questions.

It was a bit chilly until the last day. I would definitely take a light jacket or sweater and long pants. We brought shorts, but never wore them. I am generally warm when others are cold, so I was surprised. I did wear short sleeve shirts, and only wore a sweater once for a very short period of time. My hubby, who is a WUS when it comes to coldness, wore a tshirt, sweatshirt and his leather jacket most of the time.... There were some people in winter coats, by the way.

Thanks,
Melanie

cool tnks. for the info. The wife and i are pretty excited. This is our first. I just have a couple questions.
F irst, how is the embarking disembarking?
Second, will it be quicker if we fill out the forms on-line?
third, was there alot to do on the ship?

Embarking was VERY easy, BUT we had done the funpass before the cruise, and the completed funpass was included in our documents. They really have seemed to work out the kinks. our line went very fast - they had a separate line for funpass folks. I would make sure to go ahead and do it and print out your completed page. If you are at the port early (before noon I think), you can do early registration at the Queen Mary where, as I understand it, they will issue you your sign and sail card and you can just go right on board with just a few stops - picture taking, and document checking.
Disembarking was another story. From what I understand, they changed some immigration stuff and were fingerprinting and photographing folks as they left the ship - I think it was only non-US Citizens, but it delayed things horribly. We were one of the last groups called off, and didn't get on our bus to the airport til noon or so. Disembarking didn't start until 10:30 or so, and was supposed to start around 8 am. I think part of it was also people trying to take things back into the USA that were not permitted as they kept mentioning that when we were getting our update. But while you are waiting to disembark you can go sit on the Lido deck, or stay in your room. Everything was pretty much closed (shops, casino, etc.) but we lazed around on the Lido deck and read.
There was stuff to do on the ship - it really depends on what you're interested in. This was a resting vacation for us, so we didn't do a whole lot - a bit of casino, some fun games, bingo, stuff like that. And food and drinks 24 hours a day....
I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have.

We did the early check in at the Queen Mary last time and it was really fast. Walked right up to the counter, did all the paperwork for 4 people and walked out with our sign and sail in about five min. With the fun pass its supposed to be even better...wow, I cant imagine. We didn't do the Queen Mary tour, just sat outside and waited. Once we noticed people getting inline to board we took our place in line. That line was a long one. I wasn't able to see where everyone else, who hadn't done the early check in was going though.

As for fingerprinting and photo taking, it must have been just non-US because we never had to do that but that didn't make things any better. Seemed like we waited forever for our color to be called and then had to wait in a line to show our ID's again once we got off the ship. Since I am one of those who always seem to get in the wrong line, it figures that the family in front of us had a problem and they were having to wait while phone call after phone call was being made to verify something on their documents. While a little annoying, we were depressed after having to get off that beautiful ship and in no hurry to get home anyway....lol.

This will be out third cruise just since November of 2002. We are so hooked on cruising. I just wish we had done this years ago. I cant wait to hear how you liked it. Have a great time!!
