Hi, i plan on just relaxing in Grand caymon: perhaps going to a beacha nd shopping. Is it safe t do this on your own?
what are the best stores in this port?
What are the recommended beaches for just relaxing (no scuba diving)?
What are some treats that this port specializes in?
I think Cozumel would be the better shopping, its really been built up in the last 10 years, almost didn't recognize the place... Look for Rum cakes in Grand Cayman, they are good and nice to bring back home.
If you're speaking about the Ruins at Tulum, yes there's time but not alot. That tour debarks onto a water taxi from the opposite side of the pier. On the return trip, the taxi will drop you off downtown if you prefer then proceed back to the ship. Passengers who don't get off downtown won't set foot on Cozumel. When you're finished shopping, you'll have to catch a cab to the pier $6. Oh, and try the conch in GC.
When you get off the bus from Tulum, you're still on the mainland at Playa del Carmen. You need to take the water taxi out to the island of Cozumel where the ship is docked. The taxi will stop first downtown and offer to drop off persons wanting to shop. Then it continues back to the ship and offloads the remaining passengers. Those who get off downtown should have a couple hours to shop and then arrange their own transportation to pier. Taxis are not a problem as long as you don't shop at Carlos and Charlie's.
In Cozumel, I took the Ruins tour and snorkeled and that only left about an hour cutting it really close to the departure time of the ship. Personally, I think the shopping in Grand Cayman is better because there are actual stores, in Cozumel it's local vendors and products made in the country (or atleast what I saw was.) I dont know, I could be wrong.
