First Carnival Cruise was the Festivale back in 1989 (San Juan), my very first cruise was the Costa Carla C back in 1985 (also San Juan). Have since gone back to Carnival - Pride 2003 out of NYC and next (can't wait) Fascination 5/24/04. I have had great experiences on all.
I sure do remember the Festivale, Carnivale, Mardi Gras and Tropicale. I took my first cruise in February 1983 on the Festivale. Second cruise in February 1984 on the Mardi Gras. I still have the key chain I bought on the first cruise. Thank you for reminding me of those very fond memories.
i was on the SPIRIT for the inside passage cruise to alaska. all i can say is
WOWWWWWWW. it was a wonderful ship and i loved everything about it. the cabin was great, i had a inside on the main deck ( the same size and set up as the inside riviera deck but i was upgraded to main ), my cabin steward bent over backwards to take care of me, all the employees were so nice, smiled all the time and kept the ship super clean and frienly. i loved all the food ( even the lido buffet was great ). i didnt see very many of the shows but every oned said they were fantastic. i am planning my next trip back next may and will go on the spirit again. it might be kind of a pain to go out of vancouver because of customs but it is worth it for the ship and the city. vancouver is a wonderful place to visit and spend time before or after the cruise. happy sailing and hope this helps.
oh and i forgot to mention, the spirit had better prices than the other ships when i priced the cruise. just another bonus to sail on her.
Our first Carnival cruise and first ever cruise was on the Sensation in late 1996. Needless to say it impressed us greatly and is the major reason why we have over two dozen more cruises under our belt now on six differant cruise lines! Mostly though they still are CCL.
My first Carnival cruise was
Festivale, 1983 followed by Mardi Gras, 1984 Celebration , 1991 Celebration 1992, Spirit, 2003 and soon to be followed by spirit again in September 2004 Vancouver to Honolulu.
First cruise ever was on the Mardi Gras out of Miami for a 7day western to Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios back in 1983.
We were on Riveria deck in a tiny outside cabin. My cot ( couldn't call it a bed ) had a block of 2x4 wood holding up one corner.
We didn't know whether the ship was good or bad--and didn't realy worry--we just had a great time.
Since then we have sailed on 18 Carnival cruises, last one on the Glory a few months ago. It's fun to sail on something like the Pride or Glory and think back to that cruise on the Mardi Gras and how far cruise ships, Carnival and cruising in general have come.
The Mardi Gras will always be one of my favorites, along with the Sensation in ' 94.
