I'm back with more silly questions, confused as always!
On doing the virtual tours of the ships on Carnival's website, I notice that inside cabins have something that appears to be a window with curtains, over the bed!
Okay, I know they're inside cabins, so there is no window. Or is there, just one looking into the hallway (what a view!). Or is it a mirror with a curtain?
Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
i think when they took the pix they used the same one with a porthole for the inside. they just covered up the window with a curtail. i had a inside cabin on the main deck of the spirit and there were no curtains inbetween the beds. it was a great cabin and plenty big enough for 2 people. hope this helps. dusty
Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
my theory is that all the cabins are modular. They just slide them in during construction. When it is an outside cabin, there is a window but they use the same mold for the inside cabins so they just put a curtain over it to cover up where the window would go.
Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
We've been in a couple inside cabins with the curtains and fake window/panel, and I'm fairly certain there's a crew passageway down the back of the rooms, judging by the noise we heard through there several times. My guess is that they remove the panel during refits to get the furniture in and out of the rooms. Curtains are just an effective "coverup" and the ledge makes a handy place to put your nighttime items.
Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
You don't want to open that curtain! If you peak behind it during your first cruise, you'll see what your face will look like in fifty years.

Re: Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
This whole conversation has just got me tickled, I wonder if someone is a inside cabin will mind if I knock on their door and ask to look behind their curtain.
Re: Re: Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin
after pulling the curtain back dozens of times, i put an oil painting of a beach on the ledge that i purchased in key west. i had my own " ocean view" !!! lol
Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
victoryk was correct! I watched a show on the travel channel years ago and they were talking about cruise ship construction. The rooms are modular and they use the same "mold" or design whether it's an interior or exterior room. So, it's been fun reading all of these guesses...but victoryk wins the guessing game!
We had an interior room on the Inspiration last year and it had one of those fake windows with the curtains. We found it to be a handy storage place for our two year old daughter's toys when they weren't in use.
Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
HMMM--maybe some day, there will be a flatscreen DVD player that will fit that shelf. When you feel the need, open the curtain and see a pre-recorded view through a "virtual" window. Or, maybe ships should be wired to pipe such images. It might make the idea of an inside cabin more palateable for some pax. Just an idea.

Re: What are those curtains doing in an inside cabin?
I love all the posts. How fun! My very first cruise which was on the Fantasy, we had a "fake" window. I was very disappointed when I walked over to the curtain,, thinking there was going to be a window overlooking something other then plastic or whatever the heck its made of. :o) But I was not so disappointed, because I thought oh well the only time I'm in the cabin is to sleep or taking a shower. I can't look out a window when I'm sleeping or showering. But I had wondered what the point of that fake window was, too. So thanks for the explaination.
