Default SEA-SICKNESS SAILING FROM NY...

Has anyone experienced a problem with sea-sickness sailing out of NY at this time of year? Was the ocean very choppy?

We said out of NYC a day after a noreaster blew through. The water was very choppy but you could hardly feel any movement. It takes a lot to rock one of those ships enough to get anyone sick.
Don't worry about it, have fun!

We sailed out of N.Y. last August in one heck of a rainstorm, very choppy, windy, sideways rain! But no seasickness, thank goodness!

thanks - many years ago, we sailed from NY to Bermuda in July - no storms but still got sea sick. However, that was on an older, smaller ship without the stabilizers they have now on the new megaships. Still, my mom is very concerned.

Valentina....I have sailed from New York 9 times (and in July I will do it again!) and only once I experienced turbulent waters (I always have sailed during hurricane months).

Last year I cruised on the Carnival Legend's 8 night Eastern Caribbean from NYC. After the second full day at sea it got rough. But otherwise I had smooth sailings from NYC.

Was cruising the Caribbean and Alaska's Inside Passage smoother? Yes because it is more protected then the open Atlantic. But I wouldn't worry that much just bring along some sea sick pills or you can even get the patch. Im sure you will be fine .

sea-bands are helpful as well for motion sickness. they are available at drugstores and are a non-drug alternative. they worked well for our family on caribbean cruises.

I'm a pharmacist, and I'm going to bring bonine, compazine and scopalomine patches, just in case (I've found the sea bands to be totally ineffective for motion sickness and morning sickness) My mom is traveling with us this time, and she was very concerned about the rougher seas leaving from NY as compared with the Caribbean, so I told her I'd ask around here to reassure her. Thanks for all your reassurance!!!!

Meclizine is the generic of Bonine?Antivert, and I prefer it to the active ingredient in Dramamine - less anticholinergic side effects (drowsiness, dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness, etc.) As for the scop patch, I tried it once and didn't like it at all...but I am travling with my mom and sister and they've love the patch, so I'm bringing it for them.
