Default Shore Excursions

We are sailing on the Sensation this March. Just curious about the pricing on the shore excurions and the best excursion for the first timer. I had heard that there was some type of state park or something. I looked at the Carnival web site at the different excurion options but there are no prices.

You don't say what your ports of call are but I'm assuming they're Cozumel and Costa Maya. In Cozumel we went to Chankanaab Park for the day and had a great time. We did the Sea Trek Helmet Dive and the Sea Lion Swim there. The rest of the day we just hung out at the beach there. The kids were able to snorkel right off the beach and saw quite a few fish. They brought dry cereal with them from the ship to attract them. The park has beach chairs, shade huts, restrooms, showers, lockers, bar & restaurant. They also have a botanical garden and Mayan ruin replica. The dolphin swim is offered here at the park and even if you don't do the swim you can see the dolphins. They also have a sea lion show several times a day.

In Costa Maya we rented a golf cart and drove to Mahauhal. We spent a couple of hours there at the beach and then went back to the pier. The beach a Mahauhal is very nice. There are bars and restaurants along the beach. The village itself is very rustic. The only thing I didn't care for was the vendors were very aggressive there. At the pier there is a large shopping area with restaurants, bars and a pool. One of the most popular excursions here is to the ruins. We travel with our children and opted not to go as we were told it was a long bus ride and could be very hot. Those that did go said the ruins were definitely a sight to see.

Hope this helps.

In Cozumel you do not need to buy the Shore Excursion from the ship as you can save money just taking a taxi and paying admission personally. Cozumel is very safe and so long as you make sure to give yourself time to get back to the ship you will have no problem. Taxies are readily available and cheap. Fare is per cab and not per person. If you wish to take a tour of ruins other than San Gerviso in Coz then I highly recommend the ships tours as you do not want to miss the ship! This applies to Costa Maya as well. The prices that you see on the CCL website are 'estamates' because they can and do change by a few dollars often and there is just no way they could keep up with the minor changes and people can get very unreasonable over a dollar or two if it is not in their favor. <G>

If you go to the carnival website and register and enter your booking # you can see the prices for shore excursions for cruise dates. You are then able to book these on line ahead of time. WE are going on sensation 2/26/05 . Booked excursion to the Kokunlich ruins in Costa Maya this way.Going to just grab a taxi and go on our on in Cozumel, beaches, shopping & Carlos & Charlies .
