Just switched from regular balcony to an extended balconly on The Miracle. Is the extra space on deck usable at all? Or does the railing block most of it? I see the room size dosen't change. Thanks.

We had an extended balcony on the Pride and the width is the same as the regular balcony (cabin included) you just get more depth. We loved the extra space. A lot of room to stretch out. You'll be happy with your change...at least we were.
Standard size balconies are 40 sq. feet and extended balconies are 60 sq. feet. They are approx. 10' wide ad either 4' (standard) or 6' (extended) deep. The extended balcs are definitely roomier.
The first time we got an extended balcony just by luck of the draw, the second time we requested it. That extra space makes a difference. You can actually have four people out there and not even feel crowded. The only problem I might see with the extended balcony is that they are always at the front of the ship. My sister had an inside cabin and every time she would try to come up to our cabin to sit on our balcony she would get sick. She couldn't take rolling motion that you get up front. Personally, I love it.

Just switched again to an aft ext. balcony on Verandah Deck in the middle.
Everyone says the aft is good, so we'll give it a try........

Actually Melanie, extended balconies are also aft balconies, not just forward. We KNEW after seeing one on our last cruise and after hearing people talk about them on the boards that we HAD to try one!
But the same issue would hold true, I suppose - more motion.

Ah, right...forgot about those. Our experience with an aft cabin though was a lot more motion and vibration and a LOT more noise. Our travel agent assured us that it would be great, but it was so noisy that the only time we could stand to be in the cabin was on port days because the engine wasn't running....lol. Not trying to discourage you at all, Momx4, a lot of people on the boards seem to love aft cabins so with an extended balcony I would imagine it would be even better. I guess we just had a bad experience but even a bad cabin on a cruise ship is better than being at home.
