Default woman overboard

I am looking for information that anyone may have on the woman overboard incident. We were told that a report of "man overboard" occurred on our Carnival Imagination cruise on Aug. 7th. We circled in the water for 10 hours. We were later told that a young lady had fallen overboard and was rescued alive.

I am not finding any news of this "incident", and would be interested in any information that anyone may have. I do not mean to pry into other's business, but; there were a lot of angry people on the ship.

I too was aboard this cruise. I spent a lot of time surfing the net while on board and while spending two days in Florida. No information anywhere about this. Nothing in the Florida papers or websites. I spoke to several people in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale and they were astonished when I told them.

There was a USCG Cutter on scene as well as a chopper overhead. I do believe it happened, I just am amazed at the apparent power of Carnival to keep it from the media.

Coincidentally, while flying home to Boston today on Jet Blue the A&E channel had an Investigative Reports episode about Cruise Lines and safety, lawsuits etc.

I found the information on another cruise board:

Imagination August 6 - 11
The cruise boarded 6 hours late because a medical emergency on the prior cruise caused a late return to Miami. The ship was further delayed (another 5+ hours) the next day after a 20-year old woman jumped overboard at 5AM -- she was subsequently found by another ship and flown (alive) to Miami. Because of the delays, Ocho Rios was dropped from the itinerary; passengers were given a $40 onboard credit.

My husband and I were also on this cruise. There are a lot of varying reports. I have included the link to MSNBC...

Here is some more information. Why can't some people hold their liquor??

"Coast Guard recovers overboard passenger
CITIZEN STAFF

KEY WEST ? The Coast Guard responded to a report that a cruise ship had a possible man overboard in the Centurian Channel near the Bahamas early Sunday morning.

A Coast Guardsman from New York, who happened to be a passenger onboard, reported to the crew of Imagination that friends awakened 20-year-old Holly Frinzl after she had fallen asleep in a lounge chair.

Once awakened, Frinzl reportedly became combative, ran aft, turned a corner and fell overboard from a height of approximately 80 to 100 feet.

The Coast Guardsman claimed to have pursued Frinzl, rounded the corner after her and heard a splash.

The Imagination maneuver in an attempt to locate Frinzl, while Coast Guard Sector Key West diverted a patrol boat and launched a helicopter.

A passing vessel observed a person in the water, and reported it to the Coast Guard. Frinzl was located and recovered by CGC Hawk.

Frinzl was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami."

The A&E report you were watching on TV is over 5 years old. It came out at the time Celebrity Millenium was launched. It is so old it predates 9/11 and all the security measures implemented after that.

Default A&E Show

I did not realize the show was that outdated as I only caught the last 15 minutes or so. Thanks for the heads up!

How does someone FALL overboard when the railings are approx. 4' tall.......You would have to be 7' tall yourself to lean over and fall !!!!!!!!!!!

I can believe a person can fall over board since the railings are high enough to prevent that from happing however if somebody is doing something they are not suppose to do
I guess one could fall overboard.

I agree, you really have to put forth a good deal of effort to "fall" off the ship.

I don't think someone drunk has to put forth much effort to "fall" most can't even stand...so turning flips is no ploblem....I have babysat a few friends who couldn't stand up...but get combative and such when they are told they can't drive, etc...so this wouldn't shock me at all...

My wife and I were on the Miracle and heard from some of your co-sailors that it happened about 5:30 am. some drunk female was having a tiff with her BF and she jumped overboard. A freighter found her and she was alive. Hope you all made it back to Miami on time.......?

The shame of it is that the rest of the cruisers have to suffer for this by missing ports that they dearly wanted to see.........and all you get is a small refund. I can see if it's a storm or something, but this was NO act of God.

Could a cruise line be sued for allowing a passenger to have too much to drink, and because of their drunkeness fall overboard?

I don't think you would have much luck since they do not sail under the U.S. flag. It would be like suing a foreign company.

I'm 6' 2" in height, and I would have to put forth alot of effort to jump off the ship. I don't believe you fall off a ship. You either jump, or someone throws you off . Just my 2 cents.

Happy sailing;
david

Forget about sueing. You are responsible for your own actions. How can you blame someone else for something you do to yourself. What a concept! Why not sue Budweiser if you get too drunk** Edited**

I wonder was the cruise extended or did the passengers miss a port due to this happening? Also I can't see how one could just fall over board those rails are pretty high up, strange indeed.
