Default Requesting dining room seating

Is it appropriate to tip the Maitre'd when requesting a table? We are planning on going to the dining room immediately after we board to check our seating. On our past cruises we have just taken whatever table we were assigned and have ended up with less than desirable tables! So, just wondering if it helps to slip tha maitre'd some $$, and how much??

With over 2000 cruisers on board, the table assignments are made days before you board with your table assignment on your S&S card. They usually put you with people with similar backgrounds. We have always enjoyed our tablemates and table location. That said, you could always check where your table is first, then ask to move if possible. I've never seen anyone give him $ when requesting a change. Just remember, everyone wants a window table and "the best" table. Good luck.

I'm not looking for a window table, or even the "best" table, just one that's not right by the entrance for a change. Is this too unrealistic? In the past we have requested our table size, but my TA advised me that Carnival no longer takes requests in advance. Hence my question on talking to the Maitre'd.

I don't blame you for not wanting to be at the entrance. Check out your table assignment first thing when you board, if it's not to your liking it sure won't hurt to ask the Maitre D'. I know they are included in your $10/day tip but if he's able to help you, why not give him $...5 or 10 whatever you're comfortable with. Good luck and have a great time.
