How hard is it to get taxis (I would need 2, we have 8 people traveling) from the Ft. Lauderdale airport to the port of Miami or hotels near there? Also, does anyone know approximately what the rates are for that?
I've read that taxis from FLL to MIA are only about $55, which would be $110 for 2, which beats the $532 I'd have to pay in shuttle fees, but if it's impossible to get taxis, I guess I'd do the shuttle or rent a limo or something. Heck, it seems like it's be cheapest to rent a car at FLL and drop it off at the Miami airport!
Check out Tri-County Limo; we really liked them. They have something like 120 vehicles for different size parties. Their web site would have a number to call and they also have a kiosk right outside at the Fort Lauderdale airport. We had a Lincoln town car for four of us. I think the round trip price was $80.
It is by far easier and cheaper to rent a minivan at Fort Lauderdale airport and return it in Miami. We always fly into FLL and rent and this has been very $$ friendly for us. We reserved 5 rentals for FLL for our upcoming trip with our group of 29 and for two days rental fee, etc the total is only $245.00.
I rented a minivan from Budget at FL and drove to the port in Miami where there is an actual Budget location on the port. It's walking distance to the ship, but they will shuttle you because it's hard to haul luggage.
I don't think 8 will fit in a minivan, but 2 small cars will work.
I then reserved the same thing on the return.
It was cheaper to fly into FL and I saved tons this way???
Flying into FLL is cheaper then flying into Miami. You save around 200 each ticket. Last year I rented a car in Fll from national (get discount) then you can walk over to Alamo and jump on there bus to the port. I believe I payed $50 for the rental. So that is a huge savings to fly into Fll.
