Default Carnival Triumph- Beware

We just got off the Triumph and we will NEVER cruise Carnival again. Although this was our 5th Carnival cruise it was dirty, the staff was like robots and our Carnival rep promised that we did not have Camp Carnival above us which turned out to be untrue. Every morning at 6:00 Am our balconey room had stomping and jumping as an alarm clock. Even Valentines Day was a bust- nothing out of the ordinary, where was the fancy dinner, shows with the waiters and chocolate buffets that we had seen every Valentines cruise. The only nice part was our dinner table and the self disembarking. We pulled our luggage back and we were on the bus in 20 minutes after leaving the ship and going through customs. This is the best thing Carnival has done. The balcony was nice and worth the money. Our guess is that with the pre pay on the tips the crew does not have to work as hard. You were lucky to find a chair by the pool after 9:00, people were bragging that they got their chairs at 6:30-7:00 every morning. The bartenders in the casino were short pouring every $9.00 drink and the cocktail waitresses when you could find one pushed these drinks. We did better with the warm Mich Ultras, the bucket saves you a $1.00! As quite a few Carnival guests said this is the best commercial for other Cruise lines. There were buffets maybe 2 nights with the alternate choice of hockey puck hamburgers or pizza. There were quite alot of teenagers roaming the decks after hours. Not against teenagers but Im sure their parents were not aware of 1/2 the crap that was going on. Thanks Carnival for opening our eyes to cruise better next time! Make sure you see Denela on the Lido deck she was the only decent bartender!

Would suggest that you try Celebrity or holland America where any of your posts will noy likely happenThis is my main reason for staying away from Carnival thru the years even though we have given them a chance since the 70,s.It sure is nice to walk out to the pool and find a chair or two on almost any ship and not have unruly kids running all over the ship at all hours.

How is it anyone's fault but your own that you booked a room under Camp Carnival? If you have access to a computer or spend anytime looking at the Carnival brouchure - then you can easily see where Camp Carnival or bars or anything else that is noisy will be located in relation to your room.

Sorry to hear of your experience and I say the above not to criticize but to make you aware that the same thing may happen again on any line (with regards to a noisy location) if you are not aware of the placement yourself.

I hope your next cruise has less problems.

My husband and I went on the Triump and put our kids in the Camp Carnival program. I believe that didn't open until 9am for the kids. You said you heard stomping and jumping around 6am...huh sounds strange....

I sailed on Carnival in May of 2005 and did a back to back Eatern and Western Caribbean and it was great. I never seen a kid anywhere on the ship while I was making my rounds and as for the staff they could not have been more pleasant. I got engaged on this ship and I am returning May 2006 to have my wedding on the same ship. Your vacation is what you make of it and if you start out looking for the bad then you will not have a great time. I am sory to hear that your vacation was ruined hopefully you find your perfect ship for your next vacation.

I don't mean to be rude or anything but you have just dissed' my FAVORITE cruise ship! From what I have heard from Carnival. com the CARNIVAL TRIUMPH has jus been received from drydock that completely refurbished all of the carpet, and all of the other fabrics throughout the ship. And they painted the whole thing!
Oh and there are little things at the bottom of their website that says Brochure Request a brochure has all of CARNIVAL'S cruises for 2005-2007. You can look at those and fid out where Your room is, where YOU Booked it
I went on the Triumph on May 7th 2005 and there was a meeting for all teens in the Computer room which happened to be moved to the Camp Carnival Room and there was a sign on the door that said
Quote:
Camp Carnival Operating Hours 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM
. Oh wait what time did you say that you heard stomping, 6:00. AM? Now I do sincerely hope that you take into consideration to get your facts right before you start to bash someones Absolutely positively FAVORITE SHIP!!!

Have no problem with your comments on Triumph however you comment that this is the best out there with no other comparison with the exception of Nordic Empress and this should not even count. Before saying they are the best one should cruise all of the others for a true picture of what is on the other side of the fence then make a profound statement giving the reasons why.

Joe the cruise king, I am glad you had a great cruise with Carnival Triump but be open to other's people experience. Not everyone's cruise time is the same as yours and it is possible that what he experienced is true. I sailed Carnival back in 2003 and it was a complete disappointment...bad food, loudsy service, chairs were all tied up EVERYDAY, passengers had to untie the chairs themselves to get a seat.
Buffet room was dirty as heck, I had to forced myself to swallow the food to keep from going hungry. I saw one elderly man shoved his food tray into the dish rack, pissed off because he waited and waited and couldn't get a seat and Carnival staff did not seemed to care, going about their business like nothing happened. Port stop, most of the passengers lost as to where to go to get off the ship, no signed, no flyer in our room telling people where to go. Excrusion: we booked thru Carnival, the guide was 1 hr late, our group stood and waited, everyone else was gone, even a Norweign Cruise Line that docked in Cozumel, came on shore after us, they too lead all their group to their excursion and left. We didn't see a Carnival cruise staff on site, I had to ask a Norweign Cruise staff for help, and he was very nice, he sticked around to make sure everything was good with his tour groups. At this point, I am not planning on another Carnival Cruise. I am willing to give them another try but with some convicing.

Not a mentioned to horrible disembarkation. We chose to carry our own luggage out, but even then was long. Boy, did I feel sorry for those who waited for the color coded tag to be called. Was sooo relief to get that ship !!!

Thanks to everyones response. Now I understand that Camp Carnival does open at 9:00 but perhaps it was the crew that was cleaning or setting up that day, we did not imagine the noise at 6:00 AM. Also to Joe the Cruise King - my facts are right and I appreciate everyone that set him straight. We DID do our homework in fact called Carnival 3 times to double check as we saw our room location in question under Camp Carnival and they assured us that our room was just next and over from Camp Carnival! So it is no that our facts are wrong but that Carnival LIED! We have sailed Carnival before and never had these problems and if they just refurbished it then I guess they got a discount because it was not the cleanest ship we have sailed. I am glad that it is your favorite ship but we would be very hesitant to ever book with them again. That is our choice and our next cruise will be with a cruiseline that takes pride in their guests. Our room was always clean and that was great but the dining rooms(when you are looking for a clean table to eat at cause the crew is standing around), halls loaded and I mean loaded with empty bottles and dirty ashtrays, I would think for anyone it will be a disappointment! Anyways just wanted to let you know our experience and hopefully anyone else that cruises on the Triumph that they learn from these emails or at least has a headsup before sailing.

If you were not happy on the Triumph you should probably never sail Carnival again. Some people have higher expectations than others. She has just been refurbished and should be in top shape. Trays, bottles, and ashtrays in the aisleways on the ship come from ill bred fellow passengers not Carnival. Carnival clearly tells guests to not place room service trays outside the cabins, but guests continue to ignor those guidelines. Hope you find happiness. I will as soon as I get on board Triumph in October.

I have been on 23 cruises - 13 with Carnival, most cruise lines, and Carnival is the best hands down! Yep, sure you will have "blips" in your trip, but overall the food, entertainment and service is far better than any other cruise line in which I've sailed. I have gone through Carnival directly to make reservations and have never been lied to and never had a problem with my cabin assignment. Try Princess or Royal Caribbean - they are a boring product with no value and not much to offer.

I have been on multiple CCL ships and the Triumph back to back cruise was the worst. However, I chose not to say that I would not cruise Carnival again, I just choose not to cruise the Triumph again, nor would I recommend the Triumph if asked directly what I think of the ship. I will always recommend the Glory, Pride, or Spirit. I say try a different ship, be more aware of where your cabin is located, cruise during non spring break and summer times and give Carnival another try in a year or two.

I am sorry that you consider your cruise a bust, but I still always think that (as do most people) that the worst day on a cruise is still better than the best day at work.

Chris, you mention Princess and RCL as being boring compared to Carnival. Not true on rcl as there are many more things to do than any Carnival ship if you are talking about the larger ships. To name some differences:Ice rink, minature golf ,in line skating, rock climbing, full size basketball ct.None of these are on Carnival ships.Again you need to expand your horizons and try the other main line cruise ships to getr a true comparison not limiting to Princess and RCL.AND OR cARNIVAL.

What in the wonderful world of disney could YOU!!! possibly mean by that. Oh I forgot to add something- you know those little Teen-Agers who were running aroud at all hours of the night? I don't really appreciate you saying things about my fellow teens that were just trying to enjoy their vacation without there parents. I do admit that it would get annoying all the rough-housing going on, but occaisionally I was up in the middle of the night checking out the ship at night. It's just nice to walk about the ship without all of those people.

As you “know? I’m a huge fan of Carnival Cruise Lines and normally I can’t tell anything negative about Carnival, but my cruise on the Triumph in 2004 was NOT was I usually expect. The staff was not that nice and the food was not that good. But that doesn’t change my mind about Carnival and I can happen sometimes, All of the ships are different. Just try another ship. My opinion is that Carnival really try’s to make all guest happy. And Nothing even bad food or not that friendly staff can ever ruin my Carnival Cruise. Try one of the Spirit-class ships. They are the best.

To Mcgofdk, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your cruise. When I first started sailing with Carnival back in January 1999 aboard the Ecstasy, I loved Carnival, I felt like royalty on my first Carnival cruise. When I was on my 3rd Carnival cruise I sailed on the Triumph back in March 2001 I had overall a good cruise. The biggest complaint I had about the ship was the cabin. I stayed with my parents in one cabin. It had no 3rd full bed for me and I had to sleep on a rollaway. Our A/C didn't work well and we had to use a fan. The best thing on that cruise was to see my dad participate in the guest's talent show feature "A Bedtime Story" featuring John Heald. After that cruise my perception on Carnival dipped slowly, and finally hit the all-time low on my 8th cruise aboard the Liberty. I had a very bad experience on the Liberty.Cruising with Carnival has it's ups and downs. I have had a good time on some of the cruises and I have had a bad time on others. It will be awhile until we go back to Carnival. You should try other cruise lines, we did. Here's a link to my review on the Liberty. http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/.../liberty11.cfm

I have sailed the same Carnival ship 2 years in a row, the first year the cruise was wonderful the second year the ship was out of control, throwing plates off the pool deck, passed out drunks everywhere, fights in the spa. people were getting kicked off the ship at every port, but i love carnival and will cruise with them for many years to come. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad, that ship was a rare happening and i am will to take the chance to cruise Carnival again.

Was that a rude remark? , I never said it was fun, i was stating what happen on my ship, i do NOT think these sort of thinks are fun, i am an adult in my 40's and enjoy peace & qiute, the trouble on the ship was caused by teenagers but i did not want to insult anyone in my first post. I like Carnival alot and like i said will & have sailed with them sense. As i recall this thread started about someone tht has a bad experience on a cruise and i was stating my BAD experience also. These boards are ment to be fun and informative.

Carnival is in a class by itself. The "Funships". I have benn on both CCL and RCL and have seen bad service on both. I cruise Carnival for the price and the very relaxed atmosphere. I try my best to cruise when springbreakers are in school. Each ship has different experiences just like any business. It's like going to different stores in the same coffee chain and getting different experiences.
God luck on your future cruises.

I have only cruised on Carnival, however I have worked at exclusive and budget hotels and resorts and can tell you that the cost of the room does not dictate the class of the guest ... so whether you are on Carnival or another more exclusive line you may and will see those that just do not care how they act ...

We were on Triumph in March 2005 and found it quite dirty. Our room, when we arrived, there was another womens push up bra still on the make up table, the room was not clean, I complained daily, it never improved. There were many sewage back up problems through out the ship when we were on it, sitting in internet area was often very unpleasent because of the smell of the crap from the line that was behind the panel that kept having to be opened. also, the last day the cabin crew did not give any of us our bills and our whole section had to stand in line and get a paper copy from the desk. And yes I know I can review the bill on TV, but I want a paper copy in my hands. Needless to say we removed all staff for all cabin crew. Dinning staff was beyond excellent, and we gave them extra in tips. Kids were not at all a problem for us, food was fine. It really bothered me that cabin crew were so crummy, my friend had opposite to me on her triumph cruise Dec 2005, great cabin crew, lousy dinning, I rather great cabin crew as I dont like the feeling some one does not clean properly. Also told front desk daily that cleaning crew kept unplugging fridge everytime they came in room( they put one in for my medications). I didnt appreciate them doing that with 20 thousand dollars worth of medication. It meant we were constantly going back to cabin to plug it back in.

I was on the triumph last november and then also the year before. In 2004 it was a mess. rust, dirty carpets that ........uh nevermind.
Apparently they had a cosmetic dry dock during 2005 and it was fine. If you don't like the noise and atmosphere it is good to avoid the spring break bunch, little kids and teenagers during the summer and then the ones that have some of the bigger "singles groups" on them. Halloween 2004 there were 600 of em on triumph (well I ARE one so I didnt mind) but I can see how that kind of raucous rowdiness to be annoying to some people.
