How many suitcases are you allowed to take. My DH told me on the last two cruises that we could only take one suitcase and one suit/dress bag...............is that true??????????
Hi Aussie,
For getting on the ship, there is no limit, other than carry-on size to fit through the scanner. If you are flying into the port, there will be however, some restrictions for the airlines as to how many bags and there is a weight limit as well. Better check with your airline for those restrictions if you are flying.
If you drive to port, theres no limit.
On American Airlines, your allowed 2 checked luggages, each. With 1 carry on each.. The checked luggage can weigh no more than 50 pounds, and the carry on, no more than 40 pounds. And yes, they do check them. And if you go over the weight limit, you pay extra.
If you pack more than 3 for a 7-day cruise, your over packed. The wife has finally gotten ours down to 2, and 1-carry on.
Happy Sailing to all;
David

I manage to get almost everything I need into one 28 inch luggage bag. The rest of it goes into my carry-on bag. We sometimes do the self-assist departure and it is much easier when you only have one main bag. We have learned to pack light. I also put a folded tote into my bag to use for any item (or items) I buy while on the cruise.
We all have one large, and the boys have back packs, and I have a carry on. It seems like a lot of luggage until others talk about having 7 or 8 pieces.
its the airlines that limit your luggage, the cruise lines do not.
For a 7 day cruise for 3 of us we bring: 1 Garment Bag, 1 Snorkel Gear bag, 2 or 3 large suitcases(depending upon the weight) I have the carry-on, DH has the camera bag, DS has the backpack
For 1 person, I take a 26" expandable and no carry on to speak of. I only take what luggage I can easily handle all by myself.

Our last two cruises have been over 15 days. So we pack two 28" and one 24" plus one carry on each.
Our next cruise is 10 days, but we will gone for 15. So it looks like about the same.
IIRC when we first started crusing it was 1 bag!

On our last cruise, we carried 8 pieces with us and left with 9??? How you ask? I had a collapsible duffel bag in one that we used on the cruise to place our collectables in!! 8)

As others have said there is no limit on how many suitcases you can bring on the ship. I do strongly suggest that you pack a carry on with your valuable and necessary items such as:
Prescription medications:
Expensive Jewelery:
Cameras
Change of clothing, including undergarments:
Electronics such as a laptop.
Passports
Cash
Travel documents
The prescription medications, cash, travel documents and jewelry are the most important. These should always be kept with you and never packed in checked baggage. It may sound simple but many people have packed them and later regretted it.
Take care,
Mike

I agree with Mike, and just remember the more luggage you take on board the more you have to tip the porter that is taking it to the loading area(two bucks per bag pre,and post cruise).
