Haven't tried Royal but after cruising Carib Princess I like Carnval. We r taking Glory in Sept. I missed the fun, the closeness I always feel on Carnival. We enjoy the craziness. Princess was so reserved. I met so many older cruisers that said they enjoy Carnival more than any other ship simply because of the carefree spirit on board. No one seem to care how much money u make and what race u are. Anything goes on the Carnival. The cabins r smaller than Carnival. However, I did enjoy MUTS on Carib Princess. All the Cruiselines should catch on to that concept
I've sailed on Princess and RCCL. Of the two, I much prefer the RCCL ships. I think the ships are easier to get around on and I just like the atmosphere better.

I've been on 8 cruise lines and prefer Carnival over them all. The Golden Princess was nice and a beautiful ship with great service, but it just didn't have the fun that my Carnival Triumph cruise had.
I'm planning another Carnival cruise on the Miricle soon.
Oh by the way, I don't fit the stereotype, I'm 60 years old, retired, don't drink and don't smoke, but VERY young at heart. Carnival is the line for me. I do however prefer to sail when the kids are, for the most part, in school.l
