I have always loved Cozumel as well. The locals are so friendly and they make beautiful jewelrey for an authentic souvenair. We went to a State Park beach to snorkel one time and I actually got stung from some fish in the water....not fun. I think that's something that could only happen to me. I asked the snorkeling instructor on Carnival what he thought it was that bit me and explained that the water was probably dirty and I swam through a school of scavenger fish that are to small to see, I was left with welts on my chest and abdomen. He told me I should have put vinegar on the stings right away....darn it, I always forget to pack vinegar when going on a cruise!!!

Can't wait to read more.

Thank you to those who have responded to my review. Is anyone else reading along? I would love to hear your comments, and questions. I have deliberately made this more in depth, to give all the feel of a ship, and things to look forward to.

I am starting to feel this story should have started like: "In the beginning....." or "Four score and seven years ago......" or " We the people" or "Call me Ishmael...." ( for those of you that dont know, that is the opening line to Moby Dick) Let's go already you babbling idi... I mean Luanne (here's where Paul comes in and tells me I am violating the TOS by making personal attacks, it is not an attack if it is true )

Make me feel I'm on the boat huh! Lend me your sign and sail card, by the time this story is done I'll have another $850 bar bill! Then I'll feel like I'm on the boat!

Everyone, even if you don't know the person in front of you or behind, holds hands. The person in front pulls you up, and you pull the person behind you up. It is really cool. When I say my line, I mean the one I was in. They try to start with at least two lines, and in some places, we could do three. (Remember, you need to bring shoes. The ones that work the best are the ones where it covers your foot, but has holes, so that the water can run through. They also rent them at the falls, and they sale them on the ship) The water was sooooo cold. You climb in water around your shoes, and then drop down into water up to your waist. In some places, you have to walk into the falls to climb, and then you pretty much get wet all over. If you decide you don't want to do it any more, you can get out and walk along the falls. (The rocks with dark spots on them are slick)

Some people will tell you to go with a private tour, because they usually go when the falls aren't so busy, but I loved the fact that there were so many people to interact with.

After the falls are over with, you go back to the bus. We were tired, but wanted to stay at the falls, instead of getting back on the hot bus.

On the way back to the ship, we stopped at a stand to get drinks and food. This was my first jerk chicken. Yummy....
I want to know what you were smoking when you wrote this chapter! Luanne read this as if you were us , this is comical

My excursion- Our group met in the Degas lounge. Received our tender tickets, and followed each other on the tender boat. Very quick trip to the pier, which has been partially been re built. It was easy to find our tour bus, and to meet our guide. Alex was so funny, and very entertaining. The bus was not full, and in fact I had two seats, so I wasn't crammed in. We left the pier and when down the road that most of the beaches are on. Alex was very good about telling us the way it was before the storms as well as what was going to happen to make things better. We saw the beaches where the turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. We saw the stands set up to retrieve those eggs, so that they can be hatched safely. We went to a small settlement, where their were shops, ruins, a church, bathrooms, and a Coral factory. We learned how they process the coral, as well as to how to tell if you have the real thing, or just glass. (I bought a bracelet)

We came upon a beach that Alex warned us that was often used as a nude beach. (Of course all the old men stood up to get a better view)
Nude sun bathing is not legal in Coz. Alex said that the police will watch awhile, and then run them off, or make them put their clothes back on.

We saw beaches that are not recommended for swimming. These beaches are not buffered by the mainland, so the waves are East coast of Florida high, and the rip tides are very strong. Alex even told us which tides during the day would take you to what coast, and the distance. Cuba, Africa, etc.

This was a very interesting excursion, and I have to admit that I was worried that it would be a lot of older people, but it was a wide range of ages.

We ended up back in town, and was allowed to shop on our own, eat, or whatever we wanted to do. Alex showed us how close we were to the ship, and told us that if we wanted to walk back instead of waiting for the others, to just let him know. (We were four blocks away) Most of us eat together. Food was out of this world. We ate at a famous place, but I can't remember the name. It is something Back porch. Someone fill in the blank please. Is it Pancho's? They also have shopping there in the restaurant, so I didn't have to go out. We had all planned to walk back, but some ate to much, and a few drank to much, so several of us rode the bus back.

Now, I have already told you that I hate to shop, but I had a grocery list. Yes, I went grocery shopping. I needed Vanilla, sauces, Rum cakes etc.
I also wanted to try to get jerk sauce. I am in fact making jerk pork ribs tonight for supper. I also picked up e-mails of distributors, so that I can order refills on the Internet while hubby is gone. I bought tee shirts for my guys and a spoon for me. I have over 200 collector spoons now. Those are the ones I still have. Lord knows the ones I have lost over the years, due to moving.

Our day in Coz was a good one. A lot of great people on the excursion, Alex was very helpful, and the Coz people very warm and inviting.

Ladies, Does anyone but me notice it is the men who are complaining? While we were reading in school, they were listening to the football coach who said "Yea, play football, it will broaded your mind"

....Keep up with the review Luanne, I am really enjoying it.

Tomorrow I want a review on the ribs, that sounds really yummy. I have tried many times to make Jerk Chicken like I had in Jamaica. Just can't seem to get it right. Must be the Island air that's missing.

That's not what he said he said "play football! it'll get you broads"

Men are generally more to the point but go ahead and feed all your stuff to the women, like they don't get enough general hospital or days of our lives!

Okay, it is time to get back on the ship. I hated to leave Coz, but I missed my guys. That night we played Bingo, and went to the shows, and just spent time together. Before we left for a night out on the ship, we turned on the TV and saw all the problems in the Middle East. Since hubby's job is often explained on CNN, it meant a lot to us. He had his work cell phone with him, but of course it had been turned off for the trip. He checked messages, and sure enough they were trying to reach him. It was kind of sad, because I had him all to myself for 7 days. Now I knew it was time to give him back to the Army.

The next day was our last day at sea. I did some organizing of our stuff. Spent some quiet time, on the balcony, and yes cried a few tears.

We went to one of the shows, and the military was recognized by the CD Todd. It was a very nice thing to do. He also recognized police, fireman, nurses, teachers, etc.

Todd is a great Cruise Director. He is funny, and has more energy than 3 or 4 people.

The morning we arrived back in Galveston, I looked out the window, which I did every morning, and saw dozens of little boats going very fast beside the ship. They all had blue lights flashing, but because it was still dark, I wasn't able to identify them yet. Once it became daylight, I saw that they were coast guard boats. We also had a helicopter escort. Once we got into the port, we had a larger coast guard boat, that had a machine gun mounted on the front, with someone manning it.
We were really concerned that something had happened to cause so much security. When we then didn't turn the ship around in port, I thought something was up then too. As I said before, the reason we didn't turn around was that repairs needed to be done on the ship, and they needed that side of the ship. Someone e-mailed me and asked how I knew so much about things in the port. I asked. It never hurts to ask. To assume, only makes your mind wonder, and a lot of times, you have it wrong. that is why it is important to ask question on this board. To know, makes a better cruise.

Getting off the ship went just fine. We were not in a hurry, because we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us, and no one was looking forward of that.
One thing to remember. On that last morning of your cruise. When you get up, take your shower, get ready, and please leave your cabin. Those poor stewards and assistance have only a little while to get the rooms ready again, and they need to get started as soon as possible. Go to the Lido deck, or even one of the Lounges to hang out. We went to the Lido to eat breakfast, and to wait. Before we knew it, we were off the ship, and in a taxi on the way back to the motel, to pick up our truck.

I received another e-mail saying it sounded like I didn't have a good time. I had a wonderful time, but I am easy going, and it takes very little to please me. I wanted to mention all the things that didn't go quite right, only to show that cruises are not perfect. You have to laugh sometimes to keep from crying, and you have to be patient with your fellow humans, and even those who act very inhuman.

I Love the Conquest...... She is beautiful... She has great people on her... and she got us back safely.

THANKS CARNIVAL

Luanne,

I loved your review. I, too, love Cozumel and the people in Cozumel. They are wonderful, hardworking people who have done an amazing job getting Cozumel up and running again. I cried when I saw the damage Hurricane Wilma wreaked on Cozumel. I don't know if it can ever be as beautiful as it was before, but it won't be because of the lack of effort by the people in Cozumel. They are truly amazing. I am looking forward to my next cruise to Cozumel in October!!!!

My summation of War and Peace:
Tolstoy vividly depicts the contrast between Napoleon and the Russian general Kutuzov, both in terms of personality and in the clash of armies. Napoleon chose wrongly, opting to march on to Moscow and occupy it for five fatal weeks, when he would have been better off destroying the Russian army in a decisive battle. General Kutuzov believes time to be his best ally, and refrains from engaging the French, who ultimately destroy themselves as they limp back toward the French border. They are all but destroyed by a final Cossack attack as they straggle back toward Paris.
The french complained desperately about being sunburned it spots that clashed with the color of thier uniforms. (Oh wait a minute, I got my two reviews mixed up.)

Luanne, Thanks for the review! I hope you also enjoyed the friendly ribbing we gave you.
I actually did enjoy the details.
