Is it okay for the man to wear a dark navy suit jacket, nice dress shirt, w/ tie, and kaki or light colored dress pants on formal night? Or should it be an actual suit?

Carnival's definition of formal:
Quote:
Formal Wear: tuxedo; suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks
So the dress pants, dress shirt, tie and navy jacket would be just fine, according to them - khakis are out though.
I would say it would be a mix, a few tux, business suits & darker sports/pants.... If the lady is going to dress way up then the man may want also to dress up a bit more....

My boyfriend plans to wear his Blues (Air Force Formal wear), mainly because he won't let me buy him a nice suit just for the cruise, the rest because it is convient. I would imagine that any nice sport coat or suit top, matched with actual slacks, I.E. no cargo pockets and nice material and construction, would do just fine. Just make sure he wears a tie.
Consider renting a tux on the ship. About $100 for 2 shirts, 2 pants, Jacket, Tie, Cumberbun, and Cuff Links. I hated the idea of trying to pack and fly with a couple of suits and all that goes with them so saved a lot of luggage room.
All it took was getting measurements from a local rental place (about $5) then phoning the reservation in at least a week before the cruise.
It's all about the photos. We went and had our pictures taken every chance we had on the formal nights the picked out severl really good 8x10s. My DWs sister and her family was with us so we got some nice family shots.
