This is going to be my first time cruising in January (can't wait) and I have spent a few days reading posts & I have learned so much.
I just want to say thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge. I have been writing things down that I wanted to share with my hubby...now he calls me a "cruise geek" because I have a little binder of info.
I do have 1 quick question...has anyone required special meals due to allergies & did it turn out to be a good experiance (no or minimal mistakes).
Hi Bluesky, Welcome to Cruisemates. Special needs for meals should not be a problem. If you booked through a TA, call and let them know, also you can call Carnival, or e-mail them. Once you get on board, you can also let the dinning staff know as well. I don't see you having any problems.
Your in good company here. We're all cruise geeks. HAHAHA
Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

regarding allergies and food- the best thing for you to do is at dinner the first night, talk to the senior waiter on your wait team. Tell him what you are allergic to and have him go over the menu with you each night. If he is good at his job, by the second night you shouldn't have to remind him, he should make the suggestions. As for the buffet you are pretty much on your own as to your food choices, yes the food is labeled, but if in doubt you can always ask the chef.
Lisa is absolutely right. We have a family reunion aboard cruise ships most every year, and one of my sisters in law has all kinds of allergys. We handle it exactly like Lisa suggested, and have had no problems at all. Just be sure you let Carnival, and your senior waiter know what you can, and can't tolerate.
Have a great cruise!
