So, hubby and I have booked our Med cruise on the Carnival Freedom...wooo hooo!!!!
And DH that he is, he booked guaranteed Ocean View....
This is the first time we've ever done one of the "guaranteed" status bookings. I know that we will be guaranteed an ocean view but we won't know our cabin number/location until we get our cruise documents, right?
However, I seem to remember reading here, before, about a system by which you could figure out where Carnival had you assigned BEFORE you got your cruise docs.
Is that method still valid? Anyone know what it is?
Carnival many times will not tell you your GTY cabin # until checkin at the port. Many times if you booked a GTY, the Docs will show "unassigned". But if you look at the back of "Sail & Sign" Doc page, at the end of a long string of numbers, will be your cabin assignment. Don't worry, I've always received a good upgrade.
The way you could tell before, was to go on the Carnival web site, and order something for your room using your booking number. You can no longer do it.

No knowing this I just tried it a few weeks ago for my upcoming cruise. It no longer works... bah humbug....

That's the system I was askin about awhile back. Somebody broke that long number a couple years ago and his interpretation was dead on. I believe the sail date was used and a letter designation for the ship and the cabin number all on the docs. I've done a search on this site and can't locate the thread. Maybe when I get my docs it'll jar the cob webs outta my noodle enough to recall his system.
I just checked my tickets. We had OV gty and were assigned a room when we received our tickets. On the back of the S7S card there is a string of numbers. The first set of numbers is our booking number followed by our room number.
BUT....the string of numbers method doesn't always work. I usually book a guarantee, and sometimes the numbers indicate your cabin number and sometimes they don't.
Not to mention that sometimes you get bumped (hopefully up) several times.
A guarantee is part of the "surprise."

I booked a ovg for my up coming cruise 10-29-06. I would be on the carnival website almost everyday looking and getting more excited with everyday that passed. I looked at our cabin and it came up balcony, I was a little upset cause I thought they were teasing me. They weren't, we got our docs about 3 weeks ago and we have a balcony cabin. This is my third cruise with carnival and my hubby's first. I am soooo happy I can't wait to sit out on the balcony and watch the world go by with a sun set of my very own. Hope you get a great cabin. Carnival has moved up a notch for this cruiser.
Luanne, my co-workers all get really irritated with me because every cruise I go on I have a count down calendar on my desk. Every morning I announce how many days I have left until vacation.
I pretty much don't stop thinking about vacation once I book it. Especially a cruise.
This one I booked at the end of January. I actually booked it the night before I left on my Disney cruise. I couldn't bare the thought of the post cruise blues without having another booked. There should be a 12 step program for people like us.
If your tickets come with them stating GTY, do they also send the luggage tags, or do we get them there from the porter. We booked a GTY also, and hoping for a great upgrade. Anyone know about the tags? Just don't want the luggage to get lost.
I booked that way, I always do. I did notice that my sailing on the Fantasy 1-27-2007 prices went way down (50.00 per person) so I contacted my TA. I now have a 6D assigned cabin mid ship and on the highest floor with ov cabins. I did not get a balcony because the Fantasy only has suites with balconys and it just didn't go down enough for that kind of upgrade. Oh well, maybe next time, lol.
Being first time cruisers, we couldn't find info that would tell us where our cabin was - until I hit upon this forum. With everyone's input, I found the numbers on the back of the Sail & Sign and guess what - I booked OVG and......Ta-Da.....we have a BALCONY. I can't believe our good luck! The thought of sitting watching the ocean go by while enjoying maybe a glass of wine on my own balcony is incredible. Liberty 1-14-07. Can't wait.
Congratulations on the visit from the upgrade fairy! That is awesome. I know you will enjoy your cruise and you will definitely enjoy the balcony. I'm sending you a PM, so look for it!
