Do ship computers have 2 usb ports?
I was wondering if the on board Internet Cafe computers have 2 usb ports, so I can download photos from my digital camera to a flash drive. Anyone know? Or, if they only have one USB port, do they permit hard drive download so I could download from the camera, put in the flash drive and move them over to it? I'd rather do that than have the photo shop on board download them to a cd. Thanks...

You can get a cheap usb adapter that expands 1 into 3, 5, 10 or whatever.

I did not pay any attention to that when I used the computers last time sorry. My question to you is are you wanting just to download from your camera so you don't need to take so many memory cards? If so there are many other options if the computers on the ship won't allow you to do this. Let us know.

I'd just like to download my memory card onto my flash card, so I don't have to bring multiple memory cards. I do have a multi-usb adaptor that has 4 ports, so I guess I could plug that in to the ship computer usb and download it that way. It's a 1-gig flash drive. I dont' want to have a cd burned because if I get home and they don't work or the cd gets lost or damaged, my photos are gone. I'd trust a flash drive before I'd trust a cd

I asked because that was what I was concerned about on our trip. I found a unit that is called a Digital Partner. It has all of the slots for most styles of memory cards. It has it's own 40 g hard drive and own batteries. No computer or other devices needed . I would just download all of my pictures each day and clear my memory card and start over. When I got home I just uploaded my pictures into my pc at home. It worked great. They can be a little pricey mine was about $60 used on ebay, but worked flawlesly. Just an Idea. It would be easy if you could put them on some flash drives with the computers on the ship. Maybe someone has done that, and will let you know.

is that an external hard drive? I think I"ll just get the additional memory card and that wshould be enough of mostly photos and some key short video for a 4 day cruise. I have 2 quarter gigs and just ordered a 2-gig card to pick up tomorrow. I guess I can always have the ship burn a ced for me if I need more room, which I don't think I will. With 7.0 megapixel, even the low res will be nice enough!

In all honesty you are probobly right. That is a bunch of pics. I could have gotten by with just the memory cards I had. I am a guy and it is another gizmo so what can I say. It is just the way we are.
Have fun on your cruise.

I love the idea of a tiny external hard drive, then I could carry around more than just 1 gig of flash drive to work with my docs - and a 30-50 gig ext hard drive would be a great backup tool, but I wouldn't buy it jsut for a trip. I'll keep that in mind for when I am ready to get an external hard drive for backing up my laptop (which is a 30 gig hard drive).

It can be used for any type of back-up. It is basically an external HD that is portable and is a stand alone unit. Very handy, and quite small. I use mine for that same thing when I want transfer large file to another computer. There are many brands and price ranges out there.
Good Luck
