Default worried first time cruiser

Ok I am new to this site...But I do have a few questions, first, we live in oklahoma we are getting married on dec. 15th and want to leave out of Galviston on the 16th. well we are going to drive there we plan to leave at 4 in the morning. will we have enough time to get there in december? Second I have never been to the ocean let alone a crusie so... I found a website called cruisecheap.com I want to know if this is a reputable site to book the cruise on I am so worried about us getting scammed. It would cost us twice as must to go though a travel agent and we keep seeing the same prices on diffrent websites, but this site is about maybe 50 dollars cheaper, anything to save some money cause the wedding is jsut about ate up our pockets and to go on a cruise would be so much cheaper than anything else.

- First, congrats on you marriage.

- That is a long drive. I might consider going the day before to make sure that you make the ship. You never know what road conditions will be.

- cruisecheap.com is just a good as any site. I have never used them, but have visited the sight to check prices. Are they giving you a "rebate" or something as Carnival does not allow discounts (except for groups). Whatever they say the price is, that is what the TA is supposed to book it at.

- Go here http://cruisemates.com/MBindex/bargainfinder.cfm Tell them what you want and you will bet some bids on your trip.

I have made the drive from Houston to Oklahoma before and I also, advise to leave the day before. It is about a 4 hours drive from Houston to Dallas soooo...... depending on where in OK you are coming from, look at 6 - 9 hours to drive it. Say it took 9 hours, leave at 4am, get there at 1pm, that is without stopping to eat, relief, gas, etc. Gosh, that is close....

The thing you have to watch for on on line cruise sites is the port charges. If they are not included, then once you pay those it will be the same price as other places.

Michael, what do you have under the hood of your car? JETS? It takes us a little under 4 hours to drive from here. Dallas is another 3.

Luanne, I have 303 horses of V-8 power under my 2006 Impala SS hood.

I was referring to driving from the Woodlands/Conroe area of Houston Metro.

Congrats on getting married. Keep in mind in which name you book the cruise, if your married name make sure you get a drivers lic with your new name. Just a thought....

I am not familiar with driving in that area, but I do know this: Better safe than sorry. I would absolutely leave the night before if you are driving. Just think of how stressed you would be if for some reason you missed the ship!!! Not worth it.

Congrats on your wedding!!!

Lou mentioned the name you book your cruise.... Use your current name, so that your passport or driver's license will match the name on your sailing documents. You won't be able to change your driver's license or passport until you have your marriage license.

Congratulations!

Where in OK are you?

We're from OK (southeastern area) also and it took us 9 hours to drive to Galveston with two stops. We arrived the day before the cruise and had a great time relaxing!

It might pay off in the long run to book with a TA unless you know what you're doing. With possible weather situations buy insurance for sure! This way you're protected. I can't imagine sailing without it!

Congrats on your wedding and do your homework.....

In my best Tim Allen grunt... RRRRUGH RRRRRUGH! That's man talk there Mehawk! lol

Congrats Sunflower on the upcoming marriage!

As the others here have suggested, better safe than sorry. You don't want to risk missing the ship, get there the day before if you can.

A cruise is a great way to Honeymoon, that's what we did!

sunflower,
I have to agree with the other folks! We live in the Dallas area and it still took us 6 hours...should have taken 5. Are you having an evening wedding?

Default Driving time

We drove in from 20 miles north of Dallas. We left home at 7:15 am and made it to the parking lot (EZ Cruise, just google it, it's easier and cheaper than the port parking) at 12:30. So - just over 5 hours and this was on a Thursday morning.
If I were you, I'd drive at least part of the way the night before, or just get a flight on Southwest to Houston and take a shuttle to the port.
