Sea Miles!

On the back of the last Currents, Carnival is offering the "Carnival Credit Card". With this you can earn sea miles towards future cruises. Have any of you tried this? It looks like you need to spend a tremendous amount to earn a free cruise.

Just wanted some input if anyone has taken an advantage of this offer and what they really got from it.

Oh Lou,

Don't!!!!!!!! This is not a good thing, and I hope one day Carnival will take their name back from this company. You have to put up with very high interest rates. Credit limits are set very low so that you can be zapped with overage charges. You have to book with them, when using points. They have a nasty habit of charging more for the cruises, so you never have enough. I speak from experience, because I fell into the trap too. I am holding on to my points in hopes that one day it will be a fair deal. I would encourage others not to sign up.

This has come up several times on posts. Every once in awhile you find someone who did good with theirs, but not very often, and when you point out the down side, they generally didn't know before they booked.

I have that card right now. It really is not a good deal. I used it entirely on our Glory cruise in Feb. I don't carry a balance on it so the interest rates don't really bother me. Luanne is right it is a real hassle to book with them and very confusing how it works. Bottom line is you can get a better deal on your own. I will try to use my points someway then rip it up. Live and learn.

I have one also, but don't keep a balance on it. I really don't know why I applied for it, I guess because it had a beautiful cruise ship on it ?

I just recently got the card. I don't carry a balance and I booked my Victory cruise on it.

I am figuring one day to get a free cruise. Is this just fantasyland?

Did you book it through Carnival's PVP or through the card company?

That is part of the problem. You have to book through their company. They also will not take other discounts, Past guest, military, etc

That would be a MAJOR problem!
Carnival can give some pretty good discounts!

I agree. When you ask about them, they get testy, like you should be glad you have them, instead of those mean old discounts.

I booked the cruise through my TA and charged it on the card, I got double points. when I get 30k, I am supposed to get a free cruise - Am I just living in fantasyland?

I don't know that much about the card but maybe someone else on here will know. Sounds good but you never know.

I looked into it on a past cruise and decided not to do it either.

I use Visa that has points added to it when I buy something. When you get to 500 0r 800 points which transfers into dollars. That means you have either $500 or $800 that will be deducted from the cruise price. You can use the points on any cruise line. Just book the cruise with the company you are sailing and you have to transfer the booking number with the Visa travel company. You can apply all discounts with the cruise company. They don't know you are going to transfer the cruise. I have been using this method for about 10 years.

i have the card, paying for everything i can where i work, getting reimbursed and taking the $ to the bank IMMEDIATELY. i have not paid any interest and booked a cruise thru carnival. i then called barclay (sea miles) and found out the cruise costs in points. i explained what i had done and was told to cancel thru carnival and call back right away to rebook. 149,000 points for balcony room 7429 8b aft which is what i wanted on the triumph sept 15 2007. my cost $145.61 for two people for the gov't taxes. yes i don't like the card or people, but love the cruise, free is definitely great.

I have that card and it sucks in plain English! I used it all the time and got nothing from it. Its the biggest rip off. Don't do it. If it was worth it I would tell you all to go and use it but the truth is its not worth what they say it is to use the card! I know I used it alot to gain points and I ended up paying for my cruise without those points!.
