Default tips / soda card on carnival

i'm going on the carnival liberty in less than a month and i have a question. When i get my soda card, each time i get a soda are they going to add a tip to my bill for that?

Jean -

Not sure what you mean by "they don't charge you tax" if you buy at sea.

We always buy my wife's soda card as the first purchase we make after embarkation and have never seen a tax added to the bill. 15% tip like all other drinks - yes, but not tax.

BTW - we always tip the servers who have kept my wife's glass full at the end of the cruise. Usually, within a day, they know her by sight and, when they see her coming their way, they get her soda and she barely has to stop.

I haven't bought the soda card yet but can someone fill me in? Approx how much would they cost you? And where do you go to buy it?

I've just settled for the juice or coffee on my past two cruises, but they were just short ones.

The soda card is great, but if you do get one, you can't order more than one drink at a time. We tried to get two. We got around it by ordering one and then one of us going up to the bar and getting another one right away....

I think the price is $5.50 per day times the number of days for your cruise.

Are you trying to have two people get soda off of one card? The card is intended for use by only one person.

Maybe they just drink a lot of soda

CROOOZIN -

You may well be right, but I have observed any number of people trying to get around this condition of the card's use - it is analogous to the idea of trying to sneak liquor on board.

When we go on our May cruise on the Liberty, we will get separate cards for my wife and my daughter, since they both drink soda. Myself, I gave up soda 20 years ago when I began to have blood pressure problems. Now, I have had to give up caffeinated coffee altogether, but I enjoy drinking water (and alcoholic beverages), so not all is lost.

That was just a tiny bit of sarcasm.

Okay, It's my understanding the cost of the soda card includes tip. I think we paid, $5.00 per day last sept on a 4 day cruise. But we were definately charged tax and we will wait now until we are out to sea. I suppose we can wait a few hrs for a soda.... there's always beer.

The soda cards are now $5 per day.. and you have to buy one for the length of the cruise.

The tip is added on when you buy the card. And yes, if you buy it while the ship is still in port in Florida they'll charge you sales taxes.

The cards are MEANT to be one per person.

I used to have a restaurant that had an all you can eat Ribs and wings night. Amazing how many people tried to make it an all me and all my friends can eat night.

It still does amaze me what people will get away with when they can. It's all good if I can do it and get not get caught does get a little depressing... gets one cynical about the "good in people"
