Default Is it true??

I was told by my TA that you can't pay ahead of time for your excursions... you can reserve it with a credit card but they won't bill you until you get to the ship then they posted on your s&s card...
Is this true?

I'm not so sure about that. I always pre book some excursions and they charge my card right away. Usually, by the time I cruise, those excursions are paid for already...I'd give Carnival a call and confirm that.

When we did our Hawaiian cruise we had all of our excursions booked and paid for a couple of months before we left. We even changed one, and they credited our card for the difference. Plus, we didn't have to wait in line to book anything. All the paperwork was waiting in our cabin when we boarded. It made it nice because it kept our s&s account much more manageable.

Not true. After you have a booking number you can book your excursions on the Carnival website. Your credit card is charged the full amount immediately. Nothing goes to SS account as a charge unless you book it on the ship. I have done this multiple times and that is always the way it has worked.

Edited by Scurvydog for clarity.
The online excursions will show on the SS account but it will also show a credit where they have been paid in full.

Some cruiselines do charge you when you book. Like Donna, when we boarded, they were paid for already. Nice way to budget money. If you change your mind before the cutoff time they will refund the $. Unfortunately Princess doesn't charge ahead of time, they only reserve. Imagine our shock when we saw our bill at the end of our 15 day cruise! When we finally realized it was for the tours also but it was still a shock. I think RCI does bill ahead also or at least I hope so.

Your credit card is charged promtly for the cost. The amount WILL show up on the sail and sign and a debit and then a credit, thereby cancelling each other out. It is only a way to show the booked the tour in case you have a problem.

an absolute lie - book your excursions NOW... you can book them as soon as your cruise is paid in full!

I booked my excursions for Carnival Liberty early. They were charged right away to my card. Even after hurricane Dean when Costa Maya was destroyed Carnival refunded the money for that excursion to my account.

That is exactly what they did to our SS account. This was in Jan. on the Ecstasy.
Enjoy

We booked all of our shore excursions online. We expected that they would should up on our S&S card. No such luck. They all showed up on our recent credit card bill! Oh well. At least everything will be paid for by the time we leave.

It depends on the cruise line. On recent Carnival and RCI cruises, we were charged immediately. I'm pretty sure that HAL charged us immediately as well. On our last Princess and NCL cruises, they let us book the excursions, but the charge showed up on the S&S. The answer to your question would depend on which line you are sailing. The booking site will tell you whether you must provide a CC to be charged.

Wow, thanks everyone for your imput.... I'm going to call Carnival right away to try and book my missing party boat excursion...
by missing... I mean it was listed as an option on my cruise then it disappeared. My TA says she's put in calls to find out if it is still available but she has had no luck.
I am not going to be happy with my TA if I'm able to make one phone call and book it.
