Default Past cruiser's discount and booking w/a newbie?

We are doing this for this cruise in 6 days. Some of us booked this way to get a discount for more of us.

This is my question:
I know our sail and sign cards will have two people in a cabin and we will have to go to the Purser's desk to have them change to the correct couples. Is the the way it is always done?

I am hearing from people who say that their TA told them that they can get this discount for past cruisers and newbies and it will be handled by the TA before the cruise and eliminate the Purser's desk?

Thank you
Darlene

Hey Darlene (fellow single digit countdown member!)

So if I understand correctly you mixed and matched couples so that each cabin would have at least one past guest so you'd get the past guest specials right? If so then 10 points for initiative! lol

I'm doing something similar for my next cruise and we also did this on my last cruise. All we had to do was go to the purser for an extra room key since our issued one only works for the cabin we are assigned to on our tickets. No big deal, just meant the sail and sign was just for purchases and our embarkation/debarkation ID and that the other one was just our room key. The purser is happy to make that for you, just make sure before you wait in line you have one person from each room that is being affected or else they won't do it. When you go to board make sure everyone assigns the correct credit card to their sail and sign card as well. That is unless you'll be buying everyone else drinks

So enjoy the Caribbean sun, and I'll be up marveling at the beauty of Alaska!

Redwitch,
What is the past cruiser / newbie deal?? I am thinking on taking my mom on her first cruise, is it worth doing the deal?

Being a past cruise you can get a nice deal and the earlier you
book the better. So I find for my self anyway.

I always book under the super saver rate and thats about a year
ahead of the time I want to go.

All you do is have one past cruiser book with a first time cruiser. The rate is lower for the cabin.

We have been told that it is very easy to have the Sail and Sign cards changed or do it the other way and just get another Sail and sign card to used as a room key only.

I think we will do the first, because that would be one less card to worry about losing.

Thank You
Darlene

Hey Darlene, We had our room booked and he is a past cruiser and I am a newbie. We did not get any discount to the published rates shown online when I booked thru Carnival direct. I wonder why not.
When we booked I even gave them his past cruiser number and all that. HMMMMMM.

Maybe you will get your "discount" in the cabin.

Who did you book with? We book with a Vacation Planner from Carnival and we did receive a discount.

I used one of the Vacation Planners at Carnival direct. When we booked it the web prices on their site were 469/pp for the guarantee ov room. Granted that is cheaper that what we are seeing now online but no discount whatsoever. I did have everything put in my name rather than his name; maybe that is why???

Are you excited? Do you have all your stuff packed and ready to go? You did go online for the OPC to sign up? I sure did....even if I only get the lanyard. I did get the email response from them so I know they did get my information.

Yes, that could be why you didn't get a discount. I think they consider the "guarantee as a discount already...like the Military can only use that and not past cruisers. One discount per cabin

Yes, I have been packed for weeks

We have signed up for OPC a few weeks ago also. We receive their message saying welcome.

I just sent my group a big email saying 72 hours They all think I will need Re-hab when I get back.

I have found that they don't always offer a past guest discount when you book. I think it depends on when you book. We looked at quotes for a cruise that was more than a year away and our TA said they had not yet listed the Past Guest Discount, but if it became available she would get our fares reduced. Sometimes we get and either/or for Past guest or age 55+ but not both.

We don't use a TA we use a vacation planner from Carnival. We book 14 months in advance and we got a discount...just one discount per cabin...

We recently booked the Conquest for next year. This is the first time we used a TA instead fo our favorite PVP. We hated to do it, but the savings was over $150 dollars for our cabin. We used the Military discount , as we have for our last two cruises. Was able to get an 8B bal. at a great price. We will check both ways in the future to see who can give us the best price.

Darlene you enjoy your up-coming cruise.

Thank you Gary....
My brother used his Military discount. He received a huge discount. He couldn't use his past cruisers with it. He was only able to use that one.

I have used both Carnival and a TA as well as on-line booking and have booked 12 cruises in the past 4 years. Most of the time we do get either a past guest or a 55+ discount. However, when I priced a Transatlantic trip for next April last month (both with my TA and Carnival), I was told that they had not yet released the Past Guest Rate on that cruise and it might be released later.

Yes, we are inquiring about a cruise for 2009 on the Glory and we were told the same thing, that the past cruisers discount isn't out yet.
