Default Grand Turk Beach

Question - does anyone know if the beach on Grand Turk is soft sand? I'm wondering if we will need water shoes or if we can go barefoot on the beach and in the water.

From looking at this photo of the beach area around the pier it looks like the sand is soft.

This area of the beach, which is way down on the other end of the island looks rocky.

Grand Turks is beautiful. Enjoy.

The beach at Grand Turk is soft sand. Been there several times and never used water shoes.

sand is shelly but take water shoes since there are some rocks in the water towards where the excursions leave from...otherwise, just sit back at Margaritaville and enjoy their gorgeous pools and swim-up bar....

Not as soft as Half Moon Cay, but still a really nice beach.

Default Thanks!

Great info! Thanks for responding. We've decided to go without the water shoes and feel the fabulous sand between our toes!

Good call - water shoes are overkill on Buffet's Beach! Its more of a flipflops place....

Can anyone recommend what to do in Grand Turk? Going in a few weeks and would love to hear about either excursion or beach recommendations.

IMHO - I would hang out at Margaritaville- great beach, pool, bar, and right by the ship access.

We shopped a little then hit the beach. You just walk off the ship, through the shopping area and the beach is right there.

It's great spot for photos. Stand with your group between a couple of palm trees with the ship in the background and one photo sums up your whole trip.

If you have your own snorkel and mask there are a number of fish between the ship and the beach so there is decent snorkeling right off the swimming area.

The personal watercraft excursion looked really fun. The last bunch came back in just after the time the ship was suppose to leave but of course the ship waited.

The dune buggy tour looked cool too.

Yes walk to the beach and there is no charge for chairs/umbrellas.
There seemed to be plenty of chairs but the last people off the ship may have a hard time finding umbrellas.

Your biggest challenge will be getting around the photographers standing around as you exit the ship that want you to take a picture for purchase. We were assaulted by 3 of them in between the gang plank from the ship and making it to the beach![/img]
We brought our own snorkel equipment and had a blast (a serious black hole drop-off toward the end of the beach). We also ate at Margaritaville--good food, fun time, but S-L-O-W service. Some friends of ours rented scooters and rode around on their own. Nice port.
