Default airfare more than cruise price!!

I am trying DAILY to wait patiently to pray that southwest comes out with a good deal on airfare from NOLA (either N.O, BR or Lafayette) to FLL for my next cruise! There are 3 of us and as of right now the airfare is more expensive than the cruise alone! OF course the cruise is during thanksgiving week. I'm just venting here!!! Does anyone know when southwest comes out with new dates? They have not gone past Oct 30 for the last month! Thanks!

Southwest is unpredictable, but I have found they usually come out about 4 months ahead. It would be a good idea to sign up for their "ding" service which notifies you instantly when new special offers are announced.

Don't expect any deals during the Holiday season. And that cruise may cost you more than you thought.

See the new fuel supplement charges?

Try Frontier airlines or ATA.

This fuel crap is getting out of control.

Hi~

Try AirTran; they are by far the cheapest I have found. My husband & I are using our rapid rewards tickets to fly SWA out of PHX to FLL; we had to fly our daughter & friend out of the Iowa City area, which SWA doesn't service.

We were able to get a pretty decent fare (less than the cruise thankfully) for the two of them out of Moline, IL on Airtran ($220 round trip). AirTran flies out of NOLA to FLL so hopefully, that will help you.

Good Luck

The airlines are in crisis. None can operate long-term with fuel prices at the current level without making major operational changes. And one of those changes is higher fares ... on some routes dramatically higher fares.

Nobody knows how this will turn out. There have been quiet rumblings of re-regulation in order to prevent a total meltdown. I'm skeptical of that happening, but who knows. At least customer service would improve, assuming you could afford it.

Cheers, Aidan

Wow - thank you ALL for your responses! Luckily Irish...I booked the cruise long ago enough that the price has locked in. In fact, they even reimbursed me the fuel charge about a month ago!
I will sign up for the 'ding' and glad to know the nov. SW won't come out until the end of June. I won't panic until then. Yep, I have tried different airlines - and even the cost of driving to FLL, but work time won't permit. I'll keep trying - and praying SW comes out with a deal thats affordable. Either way ----- I'll have to get there! The prices of GAS and airlines are esculating - which means cruising will also follow suit! Which is more the reason I wish they would put MORE ships in N.O!!!

I am looking at paying anywhere from $1400-1600 for airfare to Miami from where I live in Canada. Northwest, America, Delta, United, Air Canada, and West Jet all fly to FLL or MIA, but the cheapest rate so far is in the $1400 (US) range....I have to keep watching for deals in airfare just coming out of the Xmas season.

That's why I gave up my cruise in Fort Lauderdale and the Freedom cruise to Italy.

I don´t think that the airfares are crazy now, they have been crazy for some years and now the reality is catching up!

It´s not realistic to believe that the low prices that have been the standard for some years would last forever. Now those companies who have survived need to earn some money and the prices go up!

Are you asking me? I live in Space City, USA. That is the moniker for Houston, Texas.

That's why I feel so lucky to live within easy driving distance to 5 ports! Airfare has gotten completely out of hand, and I, even as a pilot, don't like to fly commercially anymore. When the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) do our Med cruise, we're going to do a repositioning cruise at least one way, and if I can find a new ship coming West after being built, I will try to do a cruise both ways. I'll sponge off Vita's family for a few weeks to make that happen!

We went ahead and booked our air fare, because we were afraid it would just go up instead of down. We were right, it did go up.

Cheryl, What's your diet secret?

You really want to know? A 20,000 check for a RNY bypass surgery! Best check I ever wrote (even next to cruises because I can now LIVE longer to cruise more).
I don't want to book a flight right now------ it would cost me 3200!!

You know, a coworker's wife had that surgery and she is one hot chick these days! She said it was the best thing she ever did for herself...I hope you enjoy yours as much!

I'm trying the veggie and fruit of the day thing. It includes sugarfree oatmeal for breakfast. A fat free ham on wheat tortilla for lunch with a veggie and fruit of the day (except bananas). You can snack on the veggie or fruit all day. I haven't figured out what dinner will be yet. I'll let you know!

It isn't very much fun and I really want a honeybun and/or a moonpie!
