Default Where to go in Ochos Rios

This will be the first time in Jamaica. Is there a beach which you can get to by taxi? I have heard horror stories about taxis and want to know what option there are to spend a few nice hours on a beautiful beach with out going through the cruise line or being take or robbed.

You might want to see about a day pass to Sandals..Also check out Ocho Rios Beach, which is near the pier.

Best bet is to do what Trip suggested or just go on a ship excursion, climb the falls, thats always fun.

we are going to Sandals for the day on our next stop in Jamaica.
It is $80.00 per person for an all inclusive day pass (directly through the resort).

When you get off the ship, go to your right, allot of great shopping and you can also go to a small beach at Margaritaville, I think there is a cost. I think that would be the most relaxing thing there. You can walk and not get in a taxi, just ignore the drivers begging you to get in the cabs. I didn't care much for this port, fond the great shopping and Margaritaville at the end of our day, wish we would of went there first. When you get back to the ship, hop in the hot tub on the aft of the ship and it is a beautifull view as you sail away. Have great fun!!!

Stay on the ship.

Ocho Rios has an area within walking distance called Island Village.

This is where Margaritaville is and an SMALL beach. Not sure I would want to swim in the water. But the Village itself is VERY NICE.

Bars, shops...and NO ONE bothers you once you get inside.

I am not a huge fan of Jamaica...but was pleasantly surprised on our last visit in February.

Yes they asked if we wanted a taxi..but they did do POLITELY and when we said no...simply moved on.

We walked to the Island Village and no one bothered us going or coming back.

I can't speak for anything past the Island Village since this is as far as we went.

There is a restaurant right next to where you go in for the falls. I can't remember the name of it but they serve good red bean soup akee and saltfish, cornbread and other items are served buffet style. Bob

Just did a google search. It is called the Ruins and has a nice waterfall and art gallery inside its small complex. There is also a nice beach about 10 minutes from the falls. Bob
