Default Formal night is no more

I just got off the Sensation last week. Formal night has gone away as most experinced cruisers may know it. Almost nobody wore a suit/sports coat. I was the 10% minority of dressing up.

Carnival doesn't even call it that anymore. What you saw is becoming common especially on the 4-5 day cruises.

I saw yesterday that 58% of families will be scaling back or eliminating their vacation this year. I didn't hear "vacation stimulus" last night. Where is my cruising tax credit?

You need to submit form 9669 in triplicate with separate envelopes with self addressed stamped envelope inside each. Then shove it and wait approximately 8 years.

when we cruised on the Conquest last May, we saw very few people really dressed up on the formal nights...in fact, on the second formal, or elegant night there was a couple who went into the dining room ahead of us with cutoff jeans and sandals...whether they were allowed to stay, I do not know. Personally, I like to dress nice for dinner every night on the cruise!

Just off the 2/07 Liberty, and I thought that for the most part pretty much everyone in the dining rooms were dressed quite "elegantly". Not so many tuxes but plenty of class anyhow.

I hope they didn't let them stay. It specifically says no cutoffs in dress code.

On the second night I have just gone to the sport coat, dress shirt, and dress slacks, but it looks nice.

We're just off "Triumph", and 98% of the folks were dressed for "formal nights". I've stopped taking the tux, and just take a dark suit, white shirt and tie. That seems to be what the majority of men are wearing now.

When we did the Conquest, in January of 08, there were sweatsuits in the dining room on formal night. Disgusting.

Well, the upside to people being too casual on formal night, for us men, is when we dress to the nines we end up standing out like James Bond or Humphrey Bogart would when we enter the room. I do agree with the fact that it is disrespectful not to follow the rules, but hey, whatever makes me look good.

Dress like a rustic.....I don't care.
As for me, when I go on a cruise I plan to wear my black suit and bow-tie. The other nights I'll still wear my trousers and button shirts. If I'm the ONLY one who dresses like he's on an elegant ship, so be it !!

I do care! Thoth you won't be the only one dressed properly if we are on the same cruise. If the current trends continue it won't be long before cut off sweats and " wife beater " undershirts will be acceptable. Voice your opinion frequently and loudly this trend needs to stop, before Carnival becomes Walmart of the seas, with a cruise ship in every coastal town and a guarantee of the lowest price anywhere.

It pretty much is already. Carnival is kinda considered the trailer park of the seas with low fares and an overly casual atmosphere. Have some dignity people. I know you are on vacation, but if you wouldn't dress like a slob in the privacy of your own home why would you in public where everyone can see it.

It is regretful that people dont care enough that they would wear sweatsuits or cutoffs to the dining room on formal nights. I believe it shows the overall decline of common decency in our society. But I have decided that I no longer let what other people choose to do affect me. I love getting dressed for formal night! And as Brad said if their dressing down makes me look like James Bond, then I'm alright with that! So heres to those of us that still like looking good!!

I was on Valor in Jan and 95% of the men wore suits or a tux and the women wore dresses or gowns. I too like getting dressed up every once in a while. I wear a shirt and tie every day at work and couldnt imagine not. If the people dont want to get dressed up they should go to the buffet.

We're just off "Miracle" yesterday, and we had two "Cruise Elegant" nights and about 90% of the folks that we saw were dressed for a "formal night" wearing a suit, dress shirt and tie. There were even several Tuxes worn. However you still had a few who did not bother to dress. On Cruise Casual nights you can wear slacks, jeans or shorts, no cut offs or bathing suits.

Exactly my point. It is about proper courtesy to play by the rules when you are vacationing in this kind of enviroment. For me, it is a job requirement to look my best at all times, so I naturally keep a tux in my closet for gala events.

Bob, I'm with you on that. I work from home. Sweats and a t-shirt are my daily uniform. On formal nights the suit comes out.

Our last cruise a frien had a lost bag over half the week. Carnival spotted him a tux for the week. Boy did it look nicer than the T he was wearing when we first met!

My typical uniform tends to be at least a pair of khakis or dress slacks and a button up shirt. Perhaps a sports jacket or all out suit. A tuxedo isn't much of a leap for me when a suit is my casual dress.

HI... while we are discussing the proper attire! The last cruise we were on last January we saw two men wearing baseball caps to dinner. They
were NOT at our table but close by. I guess it is there vacation to, but you wonder?? This was on the "formal night" to. I am retired and had to wear a uniform in my profession, so I like to dress up as that was not
the norm for me before.

Just my thinking on the subject!

When I am on vacation I like to dress in what makes me comfortable. I could care less what other people wear on formal night. This is my vacation and I will have a good time regardless.
