Just read a post on carnival connection that the May 3rd sailing of the
Legend, did not stop at Roatan due to labor disputes there. Anybody heard
anything about this? What about future cruises? I'm on the May 17th seven
day cruise and we have already been cut to 3 ports from the origional
4. Are we going to be cut to 2 for a 7 day cruise????

Two ships missed the stop due to 'labor disputes' about nine months to a year ago. I'm not aware of any recent problems.

I read in USA Today that cruise ships have been unable to call at Roatan due to civil unrest which caused road blockages and potential safety issues.
I'll see if I can find the article..
It only lasted one day last time, I bet the same again. Too many people now depend on the tourist $ there. Too bad if your ship was scheduled for that particular day though. It's over disputes with the local electrical company I believe, not against tourists.

Kinda worried after hearing this and reading the travel advisory. Because of the Swine Flu, we lost Cozumel and got Roatan rescheduled. Now I hear about the unrest, I wonder if the rescheduled port will be rescheduled? I'm on the Liberty for May 30. Did some research on the island and was looking forward to going there. Also tried to book an excursion online thru Carnival, but you can't. Called and spoke to them and was told it would have to be onboard. I wonder if they are doing this on purpose in case they have to pull out of Roatan at last minute. Keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be there.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Snoozeman, but if not, what then??? This is the first cruise for my 18 year old daughter and I'm trying to make it VERY special for her. We have already had to change ships and ports because of the "swine flu" and now this? She is looking forward to the port-of-calls. The
ship itself is of very little interest to her. At 18 she has the "adventure mode". If Roatan is out, I hope they will come up with another stop or this may ruin her "cruising" outlook.
I do feel what you are saying. I am trying to be positive about all this. I just as soon go back to Cozumel. My 19 yo daughter was very much looking forward to the Dolphinaris excursion in Cozumel. In Roatan there is another Dolphin excursion which she is now looking forward to. I will feel so bad if we don't make it. But some things are out of my control and she understands that. But she said she'd rather be safe and still have a good time. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!!

just got back from the legend and we did not stop in roatan, alot of passengers were pissed off and started a petition and had a couple of meetings which i heard a couple hundred showed up for. apparently the $20 refund was not to their satisfaction, i guess going to roatan with the possibility of serious bodily injury was more important to some. i on the other hand made the best of a cruise with 2 missed ports and thoroughly enjoyed the legend. any ?'s feel free to ask

Called Carnival today and spoke to a PVP. He sounded surprised I knew about Roatan and the unrest. Was put on hold for about 2-3 minutes, he came back on saying everything is now okay on the island. Carnival will make their stops there.
The safety of my 2 kids and myself matter more than going to an island. Now I'm making plans to change excursions around in case we don't make it to Roatan. Trying to squeeze 2 in one day at Grand Cayman, a dolphin swim and parasailing. If we make to Roatan, it will be lagniappe. We'll find something to do there. Either way we will have fun!!!
Just curious, when did Carnival notify you that Roatan was cancelled? And the refund, that is per person?
Feenix, Ocho Rios is already a port for us.

Just a thought for Roatan. There's a great resort right there in the bay that the ship will dock. You can walk to the ferry and avoid the roads altogether. I wrote about it on my Voyager review. (It's on my blog) On return they will drop you at the ship and you can avoid all the hassle of the pier.

We should have stoped at Roatan on May 7th I think however we ended up with another day at see. Our Cozumel trip was moved to Key West. We had a blast there!
Hi Dr.P
I'm on the Legend on May 17th, not Liberty. I read about Roatan on carnival
connections. Someone at sea on the Legend wrote in about the "no stop"
at roatan.
Hope it's cleared up by our sail date. 6 days to go!!!
I was in Roatan on 4-29 aboard the Valor. I booked the Garifuna and mangrove tunnel. What a mess, the island itself is beautiful but the litter and garbage everywhere was unbelievable. We Americans don't realize how fortunate we are. Our guide told us her electric bill runs about $200 per month" American" and that she does not have a washer or dryer. I don't know how these people survive.

I just heard from Victor Bodden in Roatan. He said things are back to normal
so hopefully it will be a go for us! Everybody keep their fingers & toes
crossed!
News Channel 8 here in Tampa Bay did a story on the Legend this morning and about Roatan. According to the story CCL opted not to go to the Honduras stop due to "civil unrest."
One day everything is going fine....then (as Snoozeman said) a group gets mad about the utilities priced and they start cutting trees down across the roads.
It is a shame, because the people do depend on tourism.

We loved Roatan. Hoping to go back there later this year. It is really not what I would consider a dangerous port. A few idiots trying to block roads is a protest, not civil unrest. We found the people there to be very friendly and pleasant, once you run the gauntlet of the really aggressive ones trying to sell you tours as you debark. We just kept saying no thanks and walking down the road until we found someone willing to answer a couple of questions we had about the island. We hired him and had a great private tour.

We were aboard the May 3rd sailing of the Valor and were turned away from Roatan due to the "Labor Dispute". As we approached the Island we simply slowed down and determined within an hour or two and numerous communiques that it wasn't happening for us . . . It was one of those "it should be resolved shortly" situations much like the 4 in a row "20 minute delay" type things that pop up as you await departing an Airport now and then.
The rumor was buzzing around that Carnival had not hit the Island in a number of previous sailings. I would be interested to know if there is any truth to that rumor . . .
Other than that, the Ship was fine (nothing amazing) but, my Wife and I felt the Service was absolutely Outstanding in nearly every area. We have done 11 Cruises (3 RCCL, 3 Princess, and 5 Carnival) in the last 7 years and really thought the Service was very Professional . . .
