I hate to bring this up. My DP and I are die hard Carnival fans. We've spent many happy cruises with them and are looking forward to yet another one in October.
We have booked our first family cruise...DP's family made the reservations....Monarch of the Seas with RCI.
Has anyone been on this ship? I haven't seen good reviews.
I'd be more upset if I didn't have a great cruise scheduled this Fall.

Monarch of the Seas, is a much older (18 years old or so) ship, but as it's my understanding it's been well taken care of, and is in good condition. I personally haven't sailed Monarch for many years, so can't give you first hand information, but I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm sure you'll have a great time aboard, and since you have a Carnival cruise booked a bit later, you have a GREAT cruise to look forward to.
nearly interchangeable; RC's ships are more refined and that's about the biggest difference

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate your opinions.
I drove over to the port this past Monday to watch her set sail, and from the outside she looks like a very well-kept ship.
I remember living in Miami and going to school at U of M when the Sovereign sailed into port for her first homecoming and she seemed so HUGE! It was odd looking at Monarch and thinking how small she is...
In any case I'm looking forward to trying something new and having a great cruise!
I'll report back whenI return.

The cabins on the Majesty are quite small compared to Carnival. Insides are 119 sq ft. Outsides 122 to 157 sq ft.

I took a scrapbooking cruise on that ship. My first reaction when we entered the room was. Oh... this is small. And it was. However, The ship was beautiful, food was awesome and eventhough the cabin was smaller than carnival they made very good use of space. We had a great time.
