Default If you had to....

"IF" you had to, could you do a 7 day cruise with just a carryon bag?

I am getting ready to pack for the Liberty, & trying my best to rethink the olden days, when one of my bags weighed 95 pounds....I have purchased very lightweight things, trying to maximize my options with things that will all work together. Shoes will be the killer for me but..........

Just wondering if anyone is brave enough to walk onboard with one bag...

I think I could do a 7 dayer, especially on Carnival, now that they've relaxed the dress code, with just my carry on. You can buy toiletries in small travel sizes, can get laundry do aboard ship, etc. I could get by with 2 pair shoes, so yes, I could do with just a carry on but my wife couldn't!

"if" i had to, i.e., i had to carry one bag as a carry on or not go at all, then yes, i could do it...

it would not be easy...i pack A LOT of clothes and usually a different pair of shoes for each nightly outfit and at least 3 for daytime wear...

i have gotten better on the shoe front though! i still like a completely separate outfit for each night

At least Carnival does have the self service laundry rooms, so it could be do able, could I? I highly doubt it, not in just a carry-on. I have now limited myself to just one suitcase and one carry-on, used to use a garment bag too, not anymore..

Okay, seriously, if I had to I could shove everything into my purse...
Although unless someone was willing to buy my cruise and dare me to do that.....why would I HAVE to? come on anyone want to dare me?? I could so use another cruise right now.

I do it every cruise, except for my suit, which is in a hanging bag. I'd gladly go without it if I had to. 8) Everything else I wear, and need is in a small bag that I carry on every cruise. (Don't ask about the lovely Mrs. Jones,,,,she checks that GREAT BIG bag, plus her carry on, plus all the stuff she puts in that hanging bag!)

men can do it no problem :o :o the only time I didn't do it was when I went on a 7 day river cruise on Peter Deilman this past spring which included 4 days post cruise Paris..the trick is to stay with one color combination and a dark blue blazer..just be sure to carry 9 pairs of underwear for a 7 day cruise

Skymaster..there are some new 21 inch carry on luggage bags which comes with a built in suiter..I'm getting ready to purchase one at Dillards for my upcoming trip and I'll let you know how it works

Nope, no way, no how, not going to happen. What the heck do I do with all my shoes? What about all my hair products? Blowdryer, curl iron, and rollers? You say they have blowdryers on board. But have you seen these pieces of junk? I have a professional blowdryer it takes a lot less time to use. I will NOT show this post to my hubby. He is always trying to get me to pack less. This is why I pack last minute so I can get my stuff in without the nagging of the hubby. Never mind that he is bring the lap top, camera with tri pod, and all that electronic crap. He has the gall to complain about my shoes. We drive to port anyway no weight limits for our bags.

Yep, I think I could do a carry-on - I've already pared down from two large check-in pieces of luggage to a mid size check in and a carry one - I know I could scale down more on what I bring on a cruise - so yes, I can do a carry- on -

When are we leaving?!!

I think if I had to I could, especially with the laundry facilities and the free laundering with Platinum, my husband jokes that I am almost down to just a carryon anyway, now that I pack his/mine and the kids stuff all in one suitcase, plus one carryon. So just me cruising, I'm sure I could do it. So I assume, you're asking because you're going to invite me last minute and I won't have a lot of time to pack : )? I'm ready anytime : )

Me, too. Let's go! Years ago, I went on a last minute cruise. Packed one pair of dressy heels and wore sandals. Only had one small bag. BUT, the first day at sea, my sandals broke. The leather literally tore away from the sole, so not fixable. I remember thinking I couldn't wear those heels around all day and night, and the gift shop did not have flip-flops or anything. So, I used some twine I got from the gift shop manager, bless her sole...um, I mean soul, and tied my sandals on. First port was Grand Cayman and the first thing I did was go shoe shopping. Was afraid I would end up spending all my money, but found some cute sandals at a decent price. So, now, I always pack a spare. They don't take up much room anyway.

of course, at least for the present time, you could fly Southwest and check two bags for free

No, I doubt that I could take just a carry on but a carry on and a small suitcase would do it.

I could do the carryon bag only. I would skip the formal nights and eat at the buffet. Carry my shaving kit, no underclothes, take plenty of shorts and light weight shirts. Easy!

Mehawk..no underclothes you can purchase a tube of bikini briefs that will fit in your camera case that will give you a different color for 6 of the 7 nights of your cruise

If I wasn't flying,,yes. I'd wear my formal clothes with maybe some extra underwear in the pockets and maybe a shirt or two under my shirt. Then roll everything else up because you can get things to fit easier in the luggage when they are rolled up.

Actually Venice, the one I've got is a Kenneth Cole leather 21" bag, with the suiter built in, but I've never tried to use that part of it. Since the lovely Mrs. Jones insists on taking the hanging bag, I just go ahead and hang the suit in it, and forget about it. Maybe I'll give it a shot on the next cruise. (I'm already packed for the "Legend" that we sail tomorrow.)

Hey Sky,
May-be she'll give the suiter a try. I too was reluctant to use it instead of the garment bag, but heck, it works beautifully and eliminates carring an extra bag....

If it had to be done I think I could

With hitting the laundry mid week
4 each shirts, dark socks, underwear, shorts
1 Tie, tie pin
Swim suit
Sandals
Sun screen
Razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, Right Guard, small bottle with meds.
Camera w/ memory cards & battery charger (all fits in a 4x3x2 inch case)
Passport
Cell phone charger

Wouldn’t be fun, but can be done.

#1 Make my wife keep all her stuff in her own suitcase. That would cut me down by 10%.

#2 Rent formal wear:
I already rent a Tux on-board for the formal nights, Rent 2 tuxes one with a white sport coat, Rent shoes. That would come with 4 shirts, 2 ties, vest, cumber bun and all the other attributes. Throw in 1 tie and have enough to mix, match, and repeat for 7 nights.

#3 Eliminate swimming paraphernalia:
We bring our own snorkel and masks. Also pack $5 Wal-mart beach towels to avoid risking $20 on a lost Carnival towel. Reduce down to 1 swimsuit and a bottle of sunscreen. Could even wait until on board to buy the sun screen.

#4 Only one pair of long pants:
Wear them on during embarkation, change to shorts for the rest of the day and only wear short the whole cruise (hopefully not the Alaskan itinerary) Put them back on for the Debarkation day.

#5 Silk or Rayon Hawaiian shirts, thinner and pack in less space. (Could just buy the $5 T-shirt specials in port for some of the days too).

#6 Shoes:
Walking shoes worn during embarkation. Water sandals for beach and sea days.

I do a carry-on for all my trips. I've done two week business trips in a carry-on. For me its easier to pack depending on how many sea days there are. I pack laundry detergent if I need to toss a load in but haven't had to because of the laundry bag special. Lots of mix and match. three pairs of shoes (flip flops (sea days), black pumps(dinner), dock siders for walking)
