I am not familiar with any Carnival ships. Thinking of going over Holidays with hubby and kids - never cruised before. The ocean suites - can they really not accomodate 5? How best to book a family of 5 in 1 or connecting or at least adjoining rooms. 2 adults (40) and 3 kids 13, 11,8. Any suggestions appreciated. Specifically Carnival Legend
Like Donna said, or my preference might be connecting staterooms. There are a few aboard the "Spirit" class ships, and IMO that would be the ticket for everyone to have a GREAT time aboard. The kids might feel like they have their own little space, and you and your hubby would indeed have a bit of privacy. Once again, call Carnival, and ask about availability, and that may well make the decision for you.
Legend does not have family suites for 5 like the new Dream, so 4 max to a cabin, so no matter how you pick the cabins, you will need 2 cabins. A balcony for adults with a inside for the children across the hall maybe??
We chose to do adjoining oceanview cabins and it worked very well for us. We also had 5 people, 2 adults and 3 children.
For me, the next best choice would be an outside (oceanview) cabin for the adults and an across the hall inside cabin for the children which should save a few dollars over the adjoining oceanviews.
Either way, you will have a great time!

On Empress (and perhaps other decks) they have an "interior" cabin that connects with a balcony cabin on at the front of the ship.
Several other connecting combinations are possible. They are shown on the deck plans.

If it is Carnival and it floats....we have sailed it!
Hubby ... DIAMOND (every ship except the Carnivale)
Me ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale)
20 year old son ... DIAMOND (every ship starting with the Tropicale...he is the only DOUBLE Milestone under the age of 21)
24 year old son ... DIAMOND
Some of the Fantasy class ships have ocean view rooms that will handle 5 to a room... They were "grandfathered" in. Personally I would NEVER travel with 5 to room. The Balcony for the parents and interior room across from.
