Default Fantasy Cruise

Hi,

We're planning a cruise and are concerned about taking the Fantasy. I was on it back in 2000 and know it has been refurbished but am concerned we will be disappointed after having been on the Glory this past April. Anybody been on it lately and can help? Thanks

I like to stick to the newer ships when I can. An old ship is an old ship no matter how much you revamp it. The dining room & theater are nice - but the cabins and lounges look dated from what I hear.

33 views but only on reply? Wonder how the food is on the ship, also if you people think you stand a chance of getting sea sick on a smaller boat?

The chances of getting sea sick are greater - indeed. I personally think the food is good on every Carnival ship - they are very consistent about that. Its all a matter of the price. i don't like the old Carnival ships - they look like Atlantic city --- very garish decor inside.

The newer ships have somewhat eclectic decor, but it isn't gaudy. I prefer the newer ships, but that is just one person's opinion.

Sailed on the Fantasy last month (first cruise). Food was good, service great. I prefer an understated decor and the interior is garish, IMO. Sort of 80's Las Vegas Casino style. The cabin decor was very dated - almost tacky. BUT that didn't stop me from enjoying every minute of the trip (and rarin' to go again!).

Thank you for your responses. I was on Glory my first cruise and I'm just worried about getting sick. I'm not real concerned with what my room looks like just as long as it is clean....and the beds comfortable....is there much rocking on this boat? I will get sick if I feel the motion of the ocean very much. How about entertainment? How about the pools...are they nice? Is the deck area nice?

The Fantasy is a great ship. I wouldn't hesitate to cruise her at all.

The ship was very clean. Didn't attend any shows but fellow passengers' comments were all positive. The pools are nice but, I get the impression, small by newer standards. I thought all the deck areas were very nice and well-serviced. I spent the majority of my time on the adult-only Serenity deck and it was very pretty.

My cabin was U178 and pretty far astern. I didn't feel any rocking that I can recall. In fact, the only time I really felt movement in the ship's interior was one night at dinner and it subsided pretty quickly. (This was my first cruise so I was concerned about excessive motion too).

I was also pleased by the mattress comfort. I have a bad back so that was a big concern. I was thrilled to have no back issues at all for the entire 5 days. (Probably because I wasn't doing any work, !).

Sounds like we shared a few of the same concerns but I would sail on the Fantasy again, no question. Hope this helps!

Thank you all again...This really helps me when making a decision. So how about the food...was it good also? Do you get dinner seating also, early or late...I really love being served.

I'm now just concerned with where they are going, but i'm thinking, it doesn't matter, that I may just enjoy the ship....I would be traveling out of Charleston to the Bahamas, but I really want to go somewhere more exciting!:

AGain, I do appreciate all the comments and advice....Charleston is only about 2 hours away from where I live, so I'm thinking this is the best choice for me now....My next cruise I hope to go to Alaska!

Okay, I admit to be bias towards the Fantasy and this is why. My parents took their 1st cruise on the Fantasy in 2003, I took my first cruise on the Fantasy in 2004, my sister with her 2 daughters took their first cruise on the Fantasy in 2008 and 2 cousins also joined them and us for their first cruise on the Fantasy in 2008. So as you can see, it is a ship with lots of memories.

The interior is a bit bright, like one might think of Las Vegas strip bright. It has lost some of the neon that it had in the past which is great.

Here is some pics that I found from Webshots - Photo Sharing, Free Wallpaper and Free Screensavers with views of the Fantasy prior to her dry dock in 2003 and after her dry dock in 2008.

CARNIVAL FANTASY 2008

Hopefully this will help to but your mind at ease as to the ship itself.

As for the itinerary, Freeport and Nassau, that is all subjective. I enjoy both ports and am looking forward to returning to them soon. I, however, cruise for my time on the ship, not for the ports themselves, but think you will have a great time.

Well... consider it a "beginner's" cruise and for the next one you can drive to Port Canaveral and take Carnival Dream.

As I said, I think the food is surprisingly good on all Carnival ships.
